If money isn't the issue then you can get a less aggressive base tune via email and have the tuner slowly build it based off of your data logs. We have been back and forth with tuning on the BRZ via email and datalogs, there isn't a shop anywhere nearby that has done this setup before. The tunes were rich and timing was backed off at first but it slowly gets more aggressive which is the safe way to do it.

Basemap is for getting your car home or somewhere you can get a proper tune loaded. On a basemap you shouldn't be boosting the car. Yea it's gonna be tempting but not worth the outcome.

I think the downside to boosting at this high of a compression ratio is the knock sensitivity and it's requirement for more careful tuning. Obviously base maps can be acceptable and work well for a conservative tune, as that is the accepted way of doing things in most circles really. I think most people consider a custom tune on a car with a turbo kit a 'great to have', not a 'must have'. In our case it seems to be pretty much necessary for anything beyond the drive to and from the shop.
Are you from Orlando? We have several excellent shops here in town. |

Glad I found this out now and what do you mean? I'd have at least a boost gauge, i take it I'll need a wideband as well for an accurate tune? I'm still doing my research on what supporting mods i'm going to need. My last car came factory with a turbo so all I needed was a boost gauge and I sent my ECU in to be remapped with 22psi. I didn't have to worry about custom tuning or any of that (2004 Jetta 1.8T) So this is all new to me.

I could see the engine overboosting and a piston coming apart... but I don't see a rod coming out the side with under 400whp. The rods don't seem to be that weak to me, but I haven't seen them in pictures. But they look like they will handle 500whp without issue from the pics I've seen. Now, at that power level I'd expect rod bolt stretch eventually causing a failure.
I guess let's all hope we aren't the unlucky ones? Failure seems low, but there are only a handful of FI cars out there in comparison to NA. |

the issue is all maps are starting points and should be backed up with logs. on the forced induction tunes ive done remotely i only run up the rpms in 1000rpm increments at a time while verifying with datalogs. and thats still on a proven base. but hopefully this failure is based on installer error as an isolated instance.

toyota never bothered to see what springs the wastegate had in it. all they had in it was the blue spring which is 5.8psi. they went by what the box said was installed.
