While I agree that not letting you swap out the radio for the standard one is crappy, I have to disagree a little bit. You're saying it as if Scion said you couldn't have an FR-S with a standard radio. You could have, if you decided to be a little patient and order the car the way you want it.

They must have had them designed for North America, but to only do so for the limited edition FR-S wouldn't be cost effective for Toyota, so it's likely these might go on the regular 2014 FR-S's as well.
That is not true, as many people have forgotten, European gt86 comes in left hand drive as well. Not all european countries drive on the left. The R&D was already done. They simply took the euro gt86 headlights, it's not a jdm exclusive thing.

So while I also hope that the '14s come with hid as an option, it is likely to remain as a 10 series exclusive for at least another year.

I know a lot of people complained about the Toyota/Scion dash but I really like it. The T pattern matches the rest of the car so I hope they don't use that new one in the 10 Series because that truly is just fake carbon fiber now. And I really don't think they changed the clock color; it just looks red or orange depending on the lighting.
x2

Don't make the CF pattern standard, I want the T pattern.
As for the radio, I think the previous Bespoke one is better in terms of looks. This one looks cheap and boring, if this is standard then maybe I'll start considering aftermarket HU.

I'm going to call the dealerships scumbags on this one. The dealer installs the head unit, not the factory, according to what the dealership told me. It should be simple for them to swap it out as a result.

None of the dealers around me wanted to remove the bespoke either. I understand, they most likely sold it within a couple days anyway. If they had several sitting on the lot collecting dust, sure they would have swapped it out.

It looks a lot like the Nav unit they supply in the European models. A few of the knobs are different but overall a very similar design:

I'm going to agree with kALMIGHTY. Just order the vehicle you want and you will get the stereo you want. If you choose to go with a car that's on the lot, you don't have a choice. But that's not the dealers fault. Of course they are going to put the more expensive radio in a car that's high in demand. They can bump up the price, and pocket some extra money. That's just typical sales and profit tactic.

You just proved my point. You COULD have ordered it with the standard stereo, but you chose to take something they already had. I don't blame them for not wanting to swap it back for the stock stereo. It has nothing to do with Scion Pricing.

If you can incorporate a back-up camera into the new touchscreen head unit, I will definitely upgrade to it.

I don't go to many forums but people throw the word 'hate' around so much on the internet. It happens a lot on this forum sometimes too and I am not sure why. I was happy just lurking but I actually joined because of this thread and the new Scion 10 Release series. I think it's fun and cool and I love what Scion brings to the auto industry. Cheap, well thought out cars, most accessories already included for a fair price. Scion loves that you might mod your car and that seems what everyone here loves doing too.

So Scion comes out with the 10 Release Series and I am reading 'oh I hate this' and 'I hate that' why not just appreciate the fact that there are now two levels of the Scion FR-S and two levels of the BRZ. In fact in a weird way you could say there are now 4 levels and hopefully 4 different price points across the board, I think that's pretty cool!

Buy the base model FR-S or buy the 10 Release Series - I think they are two nice choices. If you don't like the funky cool illuminated shift buy a new one and sell the solar charged one, if you don't the like silver ignition color then buy one of the other colors that Scion and/or Subaru offer the car in. Don't go apoplectic because of a color - plus, no one has a gun to your head to buy Ignition Silver or Firestorm or Asphalt. I actually like the light up badges, I don't know why but it seems fun and unique. The Scion logo on the dash coming on as you get into the car could be very beneficial for seeing stuff at night - and what a conversation starter! The world if full of choices, let's appreciate and be thankful for the choices Toyota and Subaru and yes Scion too have given us.

See you in the mountains or at the track!
Everyone talks hate because of anonymity, if you have to use ur real name in every forum things would be a lot ,ore civilized.

Some of the language people use on other people on this forum is appalling. Makes me wonder if they'd talk like that IRL at a car meet since this forum is like a huge virtual car meet. Relative to other forums I've been on, we're a forum of complainers who direct pessimism even towards our own members, hating on our enthusiasm, pulling everyone down. We need more optimists like @TLRracer (great post btw). :happy0180:

This 10 Series potentially makes parts available which were previously unavailable in the USDM. In that light, it's better that they're releasing this car than not. If these extras came standard on all the original FR-Ses, it'd cost more than a BRZ. The masses would be pissed off and not buy into Scion.

Not sure if this was already addressed in this thread but the launch video shows what looks like the same standard tail lights on the 10 Series FR-S: http://new.livestream.com/toyota/scionlive

"Wing" is ugly and yeah taillights are probably standard. A lot of their promo type stuff makes them look a bit darker than in reality.
