thats what sucks about being in panama city not a damn thing around here. ill get the motor fixed and drive the car down to them or atlanta and have it done correctly next time around.
Panama City Toyota this is what fullblown told me. "I have seen the oring on the pump not fully seat and the car would still run but would lean our very bad when it starts to build pressure" BOV was in place/installed |

The reason why I am assuming this, is because it is hard to believe that the motor let go at 7psi within 100miles of driving. Something was definitely wrong from the beginning.

Yikes
Sorry to hear about the loss. Would love to see some pictures Do you have a upgraded map sensor in the car? If you have a upgraded map sensor do you know what FBM set the boost cut to? 8 , 9 psi? John |

Hey I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your car as well but I gotta say its very strange for Toyota to install any sort of turbo kit or upgrades like those when it will void a warranty or become a warranty issue. I've worked for a Toyota dealership in parts for 8 years now and never seen anyone do that. It may have been some cocky tech just wanting some experience with the job sadly but I can tell you those guys do know MORE about installing things like that than you may believe. Lots of them already own tuners. At the same time, 90 percent of those jobs would be declined by the dealer.

Thanks John. I was about to ask about fuel cut on these. Where does the MAP sensor install? Is there a stock 1 bar MAP sensor that it replaces?
Is the base map for the stage 1 kits all done using the MAF? I know ECUTek mentioned a speed density or partial speed density conversion was possible, but I am assuming it's not necessary until ??? power level? Could a fuel cut based on air flow be placed in the tune as a safety? I am new to the BRZ and FRS platform, but I have done a couple hundred turbo installs. This looks like installer/user error. I see a lot of people try to beat their cars into running right..only to have disastrous consequences like this. Sorry to the OP. This is a tough pill to swallow and many of us including myself have been there. The springs on the MVR/MVS wastegates can be pretty confusing, especially the older ones where the springs colors all seemed like tan, taupe, gold, beige and light brown. I lost an 800whp motor during the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge this year (do to a casting flaw in an oem part). I have a t-shirt from the event. I call it my $10,000 t-shirt. Aaron |

i went into this knowing it would void the warranty. didnt matter if toyota installed it or some other shop...they should still stand by the work they did and offer some sort of fix. it shouldnt have blown up at 7psi if installed correctly.
done using maf |

Sigh...this has serious installer ineptitude written all over it. I also gotta say that letting a shop install anything on your car is risky. If you don't have the know how or patience to install your own parts how will you know if something looks or feels "not right". It's a bummer you blew your engine up, but i hope this can be used as a lesson to others to reassess their priorities. If you can't afford a new engine (worst case scenario) maybe you shouldn't be looking at aftermarket FI kits. They don't behave like the turbo's that come in manufacturers cars and require more care. Not to mention that you don't drive the thing if it acts weird at all...
Installation error probably made it possible to kill your car, but operator error definitely caused you to drive it when it was acting up. If my car so much as makes a noise that's a little different I pull off the road or open the hood and try to locate the cause, definitely not worth blowing up an engine. |

well over 7psi..cause when it blew it def had way more power for those few seconds after it got traction shifting into second than it previously had.
Supermassive ya i shouldnt have let them do it should have done it myself. i just didnt have the time to do it. i work weekends and everyone i know that was going to help works during the week so i said screw it and let toyota do it. big mistake on my part wont happen again. I will get it fixed and running again and call it a lesson learned a rather expensive one at that. |

I've never seen a head fail due to a boost spike.

Having a MAF based boost cut is a interesting idea.. I can 100% do that.. Even with a boost cut setup the car can go lean because of a bad fuel pump install ... you wouldn't know unless the car was in the 14af range ( because it'll start breaking up ).. Car will run fine in the 13s John John |

JDL experience a melted wastegate line, boost spike then " POP ".
Given that FBM has made the power they do for as long as they have, I doubt its the systems fault - unless you got the ugly redheaded stepchild of a motor from the factory.
