The wastegate or the blow off valve? I think your talking about the blow off valve because you sure as heck don't need a 12psi spring to keep a wastegate shut at idle... Not trying to rub salt on your wounds or anything, i know how much is sucks when things go sideways like this, but you really should not have gotten in boost at all without a wideband and boost gauge installed so that you could verify everything was green. I'm sure you won't make that mistake a second time though and I hope you get everything sorted out quickly and with the least expense possible.

I believe they had told him they would warranty the install. I don't think they defined what that all entails.
I was surprised myself that a dealership would accept a job like this. |

if wrong/bigger spring was installed how was it staying open at idle? like i told you on the phone previously driving it around it didnt feel like it had 300 hp at all untill it blew. so something wasnt right from the get go. i had just left toyota when this happened to to tell them about the exhaust and the spring being shipped out.
im going to toyota tomorrow and im going to have them take all the lines off and inspect them and the wastegate while i stand and watch that way nobody can say anything was tampered with |

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I'm going to be doing a turbo install soon, makes me nervous. I'm going to put some high temp loom over the wastegate line. Not sayin this was a wg line failure, but if it was that'd make two now.

Sounds like full blown is saying the dealer may have installed the wrong spring the wastegate which would cause it to run too much boost.
The wastegate spring determines the amount of positive manifold pressure required to open the gate and bleed off excess exhaust gas from the turbine which maintains boost at the desired pressure (spring pressure). If a boost controller is involved, it's purpose is to bleed off positive manifold pressure before it reaches the waste gate pressure port allowing you to run boost higher than spring pressure. The blow off valve being open at idle is NOT going to cause overboost, it will idle like shit and very rich but it will not cause over boost. A Vent to atmosphere blow off valve requires a spring stiffer than manifold vacume at idle to stay closed at idle. Sounds like you needed a stiffer BOV spring AND the dealer cocked something up during the install. Probably plumbed something incorrectly.

Ft. Lauderdale. I'm really sorry for your loss. I just finished installing my AVO kit yesterday. This thread gives me chills...

I do not think this has anything to do with the kit This sounds like install errors, why on earth would you let a dealership install a kit is my 1st question there are qualified tuner shops, ecutek shops, why not find one of those? Where are the motors from the wrecked car threads, are there donor used motors at shops? Or is the only option at this point something like a crawford block or dealer?? Its scary indeed, something to be aware of for any TC installer. Or anyone playing with extra boost levels. Makes me reconsider my wanting to toy with the option of adding more complexity with a wastegate and more boost to my setup, maybe I should just hang out at 10psi and Keep it Simple and Stupid, and take this chance when I have new motor funds set aside... Wasnt there a BOV or any protection in place? Last edited by Huehuecoyotl; 03-31-2013 at 11:51 AM. |
