I already acknowledged that they were not speakers...Not sure what they are though...

Looks at the Lexus IS-F trunk...you can see those same things either side of the brake light..Also the ISF has goosenecks in the trunk....They did not go cheap on the Toyota 86.....Nice

I currently leave the amps in the ITR when I track/autocross it though.. too lazy to remove it.

Makes sense on the holes. VLN just cut the dash like any other race car would have done which makes sense.
That is sort of a bad design to have the dash mounted speakers. Even if they are polypropylene, direct sunlight will eventually take its toll.

On my GSR, I had 2 10's with the amps mounted on the box so when I need to remove it, both could come out at the same time. For this car, I don't plan to upgrade the speakers or put subs; those days are behind me.

I know! the 86 has strongarm lifts! That bumps up the price to 23-25K!

I run 1 8" sub. I use it to fill out the sound. Everything else is run actively crossed and front stage only.

Sun can take it's toll, but it will present a solid sound stage at a good height, so that's a plus. Insane reflections though so it'd have to be setup right. Normally I prefer higher mounted mid/tweet but firing across, not bouncing at the window

There are 2 speakers on front door panels for base trim, and 6 speaker for high trim: 2 on front door panels (250 mm), 2 on rear side panels (160 mm) and 2 tweeters on the dash (85 mm).

if those rears are anything like the 4th gen camaro i have, you need to pull the whole panel to access them. lots of people put midbass there with good results. depends how deep a speaker that will allow for though.

i plan on just a 10" sub. nothing crazy. just added to the factory system will be fine. thats how im running my camaro with the factory "monsoon audio" upgrade plus an infinity powered 10".

this setup is a TON better than the original AE86! haha 4" dash speakers pointed at your shins, and 4" rears pointed at the roof. THAT needed an upgrade! this should sound just fine. my wife's '11 altima sounds great and its just the 2.4S with normal audio. "new" speakers usually sound fine these days. at least for the upper half of the spectrum.

however im getting worried about rear leg room. my kids seats will BARELY fit, and they would have to sit indian-style! and speaking of, those are definitely child seat anchors at the rear deck. they pop up like they did on my GS300.

I suspect that's wrong. Crap OEM quality ~3.4" speakers will should like shit on the highs. They may be combining a mid and a tweeter in that dash measurement. The photos clearly show it's a 3 way setup, unless they made a fake grill covering for looks. 250mm = 9.8" woofer, the grill opening doesn't look ANYWHERE near that large. The largest factory door speakers I know of are 8". The rear speaker grills look like 4", 160mm is really a 6.5" woofer. If they are basing the measurements on cone diamter only not including surround and stuff then the door speakers would have to be 10" minimum to fit the 250, dash would be 3.5-3.75, which could mean a 3" and .75" if they are combining those into "one" speaker in the count.

But still, those grills aren't showing those sizes for the doors and back speakers.

You aren't the only family man wanting the GT86 to work as a DD. Many others on here who would like a S2000, 370z, MX-5 but couldn't due to being 2 seaters. Will have to see how much room the back offers for a car seat/ small kid.

Not too worried about how difficult it is to swap out speakers for better ones.

It's probably only something that needs to be done once. It's okay if it takes a full day of work.
