Its good that you have a main stream insurance company. Anything less, I'd be worried.

Whelp, just got a call from the insurance adjuster and the car is officially totaled.

Looks like it's time to start hunting for a BRZ. I think I'm going to special order one this time and get exactly what I want, but I have no idea how long special orders take. Anyone know how long the wait is right now, or which dealers in the Northern VA/DC/MD area do the highest volume and might get it to me quicker?

Is the insurance giving you the retail value or the KB value?

They did a comparable vehicle search of 4 used FR-Ss near where I live, price adjusted because they all have more miles on them than mine did. They're offering me about $2,400k less that what I paid for the car out the door (~10%).

They sent me the valuation report, and each comp vehicle has what's called a "Projected sold adjustment". This is basically the difference between the sale price and list price, because they assume people will negotiate a lower price with the dealer on the used car.

The thing is, Scion has a pure price policy on both their new and used vehicles, so the projected sold adjustment really doesn't apply here. I feel like if they removed that and recalculated the value they'd be closer to an amount where I wouldn't feel like I was being totally screwed.

Also, I did maintenance (oil change, Fumoto valve, diff and trans fluid changes) that they aren't willing to factor into the reimbursement. I could understand the oil change since that's regular maintenance, but the others are improvements to the condition of the vehicle and should be included.

It's just such a frustrating situation. If they don't move on their initial offer, then $2,400 has essentially been stolen from me by the idiot who hit me. I get it, it wasn't a new car when it was hit, but in order to replace it with something comparable I'm going to have to buy a new car.

I'm fortunate enough to be in a financial situation where even if they won't budge I'll still be able to afford a new car, but what if I wasn't? The whole situation just sucks.

Tell them to fuck themselves and threaten to go to a new insurance place. If they don't understand the concept of the pure pricing, they shouldn't be able to sell insurance. I wouldn't let them do that to me.

The payout is going to be under the other driver's policy, but we both have Progressive.

The agent (representing the guy who hit me) wasn't authorized to increase the offer, but he's supposed to have a manager call me on Monday who may be willing to "give me a little something" (agent's words ) since the car was so new.

Fuck that, I don't want them to "give me a little something." I want them to fairly compensate me for what the other driver took away when he totaled my car.

Yeah, that's BS. You should have someone from Scion call them and explain th pure pricing concept to Progressive.

If you can't get the money from the insurance company then take the guy who hit you to court for the difference.

I could, but by the time you factor in time missed from work it wouldn't be worth it financially.
