I wouldn't do that for a DD/single car. That's a better weekend only car, especially if used with appreciable mileage.

very different cars really, especially as a daily driver.

I considered one. I liked the 350x better.

The cons for the 370z for me were:
- 2-seats
- fat ass
- odd interior layout
- bad MPG
- reviewers all made similar comments about the handling being unpredictable which I can see. Just not a good version of this model.
- closer to $34k the way dealers carry them
- I HATE the brakes on Nissan in general. Ive owned a number of them!

I almost did pick one up. Got an internet quote and went to the dealership to pick up a bad ace used Porsche Cayman S. They sold it less than 30 minutes before I arrived. Ahole salesman that quoted me did not reserve the car for me even though he knew I was on my way to the dealer.
I arrived at the dealer and saw it all detailed and ready to go. Started looking at it and fell in love when some guy that worked at the dealer came up and took it to the garage for prepping.

I would have impulse bought that thing on the spot.

But since that happened I have had time to sleep on it and decided I dont want to pay $40k for a used exotic vehicle which would cost to much money to really be a good daily driver.

Now I have a deposit down on an FR-S and playing the waiting game.
After test driving the 370z this past weekend now I am considering if I should just go ahead and get the Z.

But I do love the FR-S and see it as more of a car I can play with/upgrade/tune/tweak myself. I am new to sports cars and this seems like a great beginners car to get me into the world of customizing.

If you can't get the Cayman then I would go for the FR-S. I am not a fan of the Z and there has been a lot of criticize by auto journalist regarding the handling, steering feel and etc... Yes I admit it is a much faster car than the FR-S but if I am not mistaken the reason why you thought it was a "BLAST" was mainly due to the rush in acceleration from the 3xx hp engine. I recommend you to go test drive the mustang 5.0 GT which can be had for similar or less than the 370Z and at 4xx hp it will definitely give you more adrenaline rush.

I was also in your shoes when buying a car and I test drove a lot of cars such as EVO, S4, C63, M6, ISF, Mustang 5.0, I was set on buying a C63 AMG with performance pack because the acceleration from 2nd gear was BRUTAL. But when I cooled down I realize my selection of cars was solely based on how hard a car "pushes my back to the seat", I figured I would probably lose my license going WOT in 2nd gear if I bought my car based on the amount of adrenaline rush...

In the end I settled for the FR-S because the FR-S is a sports car with a soul, it lets you push itself to the limit without punishing you. You feel the car is there to work with you instead of trying to break lose and kill you (C63 for example)

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

Actually this past weekend in addition to test driving the 370Z I also test drove a 2013 Mustang GT and a 2013 Genisis 3.8 Coupe.

In my opinion the Mustang, while fast as heck, felt like a bloated pig and completely disengaging.

The Genesis Coupe felt ok but vauge and not exciting. It was not quite as quick as the Z. Worst part about the Genesis was not the car but the dealership. I felt like I needed to take a shower after I left. It completely put me off on getting any type of Hyundai.

So it's been a good 2 months since I bought my Fr-s. I still have my Z in the garage and have come to a conclusion. Fr-s > 370z. The only reason I could see anyone picking the Z over the Fr-s would be over the concern for power. Even then, dumping another 5k into the Fr-s to make the prices close to equal, would net a better car. Stock, the Fr-s is just perfect. I love the emotion of the car. The great storage and the comfort. I said it earlier after my test drive, and I'll say it now after owning it. The Fr-s is so much more of a rewarding car to drive. It treats you well. Just me sitting here talking about it proves it. I treat my Fr-s as a true person, another person in my life that I am in a relationship with. The Z just sits in my garage now and truth be told has a dead battery right now lol. I can go on and on, but can never really express how much more I like the Fr-s than the Z. If you have specific question, I could probably supply a better insight into these two cars. But for the moment, I will say that I like my Fr-s more than my Z.

Whichever car charms you more emotionally is the car to get. The one that you envision yourself driving happily is the one that will make you happy. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. 370Z is a great car but I've never considered it. Some new Z owners, likewise, probably never considered the FR-S. Or some GenCoupe owners woudn't consider those other cars. Besides each car's performance strengths/weaknesses, each car also has a unique character that people gravitate towards. At least I'm like that. Some buy a car for its mechanical offerings and dispense of it once they're done. As if it were a tool; never having been emotionally attached to it. Are you that type? I personally can't buy a car with that mindset. The emotional aspect usually makes the decision a no-brainer for me. It's like you subconsciously already know what you want; you just have to be honest with yourself to divulge which one you're most attracted to. The one with the "it" factor. And you will forgive its flaws which you may eventually accept as quirks you can appreciate.

A reason I never cared for the Z is I've driven a few 350Zs and owned a G35 and didn't feel like having more of the same. That desire for variety can absolutely weigh in on your emotions. And if you want to pop your Z cherry, I'd understand.

I considered a Z before i bought my BRZ but after driving to work and paying attentions to what ppl are driving i saw a lot of mustangs, camaors, and Challengers, and a good amount of Z's. Then i realized how it Doesn't have a back seat. higher msrp means higher insurance whereas subie has a great rep for safety. Then i saw most ppl driving were girls and immediately ellimated the Z. Its pretty and has a better interior but nothing beats the focused attitude of the FRS/BRZ.

i gotta say, i considered the z but new it was out of my price range. Honestly though, what keeps me satisfied with the fr-s/brz is:

1. still unique, not as run of the mill as a mustang, camaro, genesis coupe, or z car. If you look at the curves in the car, you can really tell they engineered a lot of time into making it as aerodynamic as possible to keep it at its price point.

2. gets amazing gas mileage, even if you haul ass everywhere.

3. its fun to drive even if you're going 35 miles an hour.

My theory is this, with the gas mileage and light weight, i'd rather drive a "slow" car fast than a fast car slow.
