Input FR-S vs 370z
 

Well i'll briefly give the low down on my situation

My Background:
Recent college grad that has been driving hand me down cars (aka cars older than 10 years and 4 cylinders), but now its time to start picking out a car of my own! My mom owns a nice 2012 v6 mustang so i have gotten accustomed to a nice amount of HP, but obviously not used to "good handling" that the FR-S can offer.

Earlier today i was at a dealership that was selling a used 2010 370z MT (~35k miles) for a just at 24k. I test drove it and i liked it a bunch!

Next door to them is the toyota lot ... so you know what i'm going to look at :-p anyways they had a MT asphalt FR-S. They had a few addons to it (spoiler, and headunit). Apparently someone had just bought it so i couldn't drive it, but they let me sit in it and have a good look around. But they had another FR-S they were expecting in a week or two that was almost the exact same. They are asking for 28k! He even ADMITTED and TOLD ME that because they are in high demand "yeah we are marking them 2-3k above MSRP". Anyways i tried to explain the deal with PURE price, and how thats ridiculous and he say, that we could negotiate... either way i don't like these stupid kinda games.

anyways could anyone try to give their input on these two cars. From an overall standpoint. I'm single probably won't be having a family anytime soon just want an overall fun car to drive, thats good for primary/daily driving, and reliability standpoint.

I'm looking for an honest/un-bias (i know that a bit hard on these forums :-p) as possible feedback from someone who has either owned or driven both plenty of times to have a well-rounded opinion! Thanks again!

You have to drive the FRS to see if its right for you.

Also, there are plenty of FRS's around now, search on cars.com within a hundred miles of your zip, there should be other options if that dealer wants to add mark-ups at this point...

My cousin owns a 2012 370z, when he drove my FRS he said he loved the handling and transmission on the FRS better. But he prefers the power on his Z.
So I guess you would have to ask yourself what is more important to you. I'm sure somebody with more hands on experience will chime in.
I like both, good look with your choice.
Also, don't pay 28k for the FRS.

The 370Z has a lot more power and another option you can look into is a Mustang GT and put coil overs on it. I like the FR-S because it is a little better on gas and cheaper than both of those. Also not sure what they start at but the Mustang 302 Boss has a track setup handling system stock that has been praised by both Top Gear and Fifth Gear but I haven't been able to get behind the wheel of one yet.

Find another dealer that will sell the FR-S at MSRP and buy it! The 370Z is not nearly as good. It's noisy and not in a good way, the gearbox is clunky, and it doesn't even feel that fast. I think Nissan fudged the numbers when they came up with "332hp." Disappointing because I love Z cars and just sold my 240Z. The FR-S is a much better driver's car that, in the hands of a skilled driver, can beat a Z on the right course. Plus if you're comparing new vs. new, the price difference is almost enough to cover a turbo or S/C kit which would make enough extra power to spank the Z.

Butthurt Z owners the world over will swear up and down otherwise, but you can ignore them.

Yeah, i definitely am a firm believer that everyone has "their" own car and what they enjoy thats for sure. But i can't try out the FR-S unfortunately... Just was curious on what people who owned both or drove both had to say about practicality, things they didnt like about each car from a daily driver standpoint. I know one things for sure.... i will love both cars cause they both are fun! But its just like marriage, sometimes you don't start disliking someone or something until you have had it for awhile you tend to notice the little things and they really bug you;)

I had a 350Z before I bought my FR-S. the FR-S is hands down a more fun car to drive. All of the Z cars since the 300ZX have been really heavy. It really does depend on what you want. Handling fun vs. horsepower for straight line driving. I'll choose the handling any day. Drive both before you make a decision though.

I have owned a 370z, if you want power, reliability as far as Daily driver, not worried about space or passengers, and don't care about mpg's then I would stir towards the 370z. The 6 speed transmission is great, and Is very sexy.

I hated working on the 350z my buddy had, every little mod he had me do was a PITA, cramped engine bay was the most annoying thing. Atleast the boxer is easy to work on, plenty of room to even set your beer :)

FRS will handle better and get better MPG, but will be slower. Depends on what you like.

It would be fun to go up against a 370 with a sleeper forced induction FR-S.

I don't know why, but I like the "spirit" of the twins better.

I have a strong feeling the handling difference of both cars would only be more apparent on a ultra tight and twisty road like something in Japanese mountains. People on this forum always say the handling is junk yet I have seen plenty of videos and lap times where it is nearly identical to the most worshiped sports car ever the Porsche Cayman S. And both cars have a similar power to weight ratio so let's not throw "the Z has more power" argument out there.
