I think at least 100 miles since I installed it. The only CEL I had was when we forgot to plug in the O2 sensor lol. I'll keep my fingers crossed

How's your car running? Have you been monitoring/logging AFR's or other fueling data?

Check this out: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2234058

OK, this one is coming back again because a couple of vendors offer what they call "O2 Sensor Spacers" that they incorrectly list as compatible with 2005+ Subarus. I'm getting PMs about these on a pretty regular basis.

They're also available as spark plug anti-foulers or as little extension tubes welded on to the pipe.

Regardless of what they're called, what they do is to move the O2 sensor physically farther away from the main exhaust flow in hopes of tricking the ECU into not throwing the P0420 DTC when you run headers, a HFC, or a trackpipe. While on some cars they do actually prevent the P0420 DTC from being thrown, they cause fueling problems on all cars 2005 and newer. In 2005, Subaru switched to an ECU that uses the input from the rear O2 sensor to affect fueling in addition to simply monitoring the cat (as in 2004 and older cars). If you remove the rear O2 sensor entirely, mount it somewhere that isn't in the exhaust at all (don't laugh, I've seen it done), or even just move it out of the main exhaust flow, you'll develop strange fueling errors as the ECU tries to make the rear O2 see what it's programmed to achieve. The result of this is slightly worse fuel economy, a worse idle, and generally increased difficulty in getting the car tuned to a good state.

Summary: DO NOT USE O2 SENSOR SPACERS OR SPARK PLUG ANTI-FOULERS ON 2005 OR NEWER SUBARUS.

Also, it's worth noting that you can't use electronic "MIL Eliminators" like the ones from Pony Express on 2005 and newer Subarus either. Your only solution to getting a P0420 DTC on the newer cars is to disable it in the tune.

Makes me nervous about using one.

This is exactly the sound that I want.

I hope my combo choice with the greddy sp elite axleback + the borla UEL headers will be similar to what I've heard on that video.

I prefer the sound of this combo over a setup with the Headers + overpipe + front pipe + cat-back.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can this be bolted up to the standard exhaust? I'm not after the performance gains, rather l'm just after a bit more of a rumble. I've got a WRX now and the loud exhaust can be a bit much some days!

Yes this will bolt to the stock exhaust system just fine.

Yeeeeeeeeah, I'm beat lol. CEL came on today. But, if it takes a whole week to come on, then I can at least clear the code before taking my car in for service, etc.

Is there any harm done to the car by having this CEL?

http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com

I have the angled one on the way but there's probably just enough clearance to run the minicat too. If you want a cheaper option then use autozone pn 42002 or 42009.

Yep, saw that post, but I also saw the posts saying that this isn't a good solution and it makes our cars run poorly because it tricks the ECU into trying to figure out the proper fueling (mapping? idk what you call this).

So, is it because the headers open up the airflow outside of stock parameters so the ECU thinks there's something wrong? Bear with me, I'm pretty noobish with cars haha.

ok you probably read one of my posts that I spammed in a bunch of catless header threads trying to clarify if our ecu's use the secondary O2 sensor data for fueling as well as just cat "readyness". Turns out they don't, according to JDL, who monitored AFR's on a dyno with their catless EL header without the secondary O2 sensor plugged in.

My post trying to clarify this was referencing a NASIOC thread saying not to use O2 sensor spacers for newer Subaru ECU's, since they are apparently using secondary O2 sensor data for fueling as well as cat readyness. Apparently our ECU's do not do this since many folks have run catless headers WITHOUT an ecu tune/flash and just use the spacers to avoid a CEL. There haven't been any reports of our cars running poorly or bad fueling/AFR's yet that I know of with catless headers + stock ecu tune + secondary O2 sensor spacer.

Which is the correct part number for the non-fouler? You said to use 42002 or 42009 but the guy on your link posted a link to the ones he used, which were 42006

I pm'ed him to clarify. He confirmed it was 42002 or 42009. The difference between those two is tapered edge or using a gasket to seal. I'm honestly not sure which one would be best. They are cheap & plentiful enough that you could buy both and see which one seals best and return one.

I ordered an angled spacer from bigdaddiesgarage.com because I don't want the sensor spaced straight out too close to the body, even though he told me there weren't any clearance issues with the straight spacers. I think the angled spacer I have on the way will allow a bit of extra slack in the wiring which will make me feel better. It's a little more expensive but it's also made out of t304 stainless which should put up with the heat from the headers better over time.

Thanks for the info! Can't seem to find any locally, so I'll have to order them online.
