Meh, enough retro crap. I want to see a new innovative design for the Mustang.

Yup, ford talked a big game about the new mustang being a totally new design but clearly it will be another retro job with the new fusions front grille.

Oh, and resale on the ST will suck. Who's going to want a beat-upon turbo 4? Who aspires to FWD? Not me, thanks.

And the build quality of the Mustang is awful, just awful.

As for e92 money for a 'Stang, I think that's what Boss 302 people are paying. That's a car only good for the track.

  2. You don't know that resale will suck and it's no guarantee the vehicle will be beat on. Plenty of people aspire to FWD, not everyone is a RWD sort of enthusiast. One of my best friends cousin is a damn good driver and a skip barber instructor and while he has an E36 that he tracks occasionally he prefers his Civic and tracks that regularly.
  3. Again, awful compared to what? Tell me what in that price range offers as much bang for your buck as a Mustang or Camaro. Both cars have already proved time and time again they can put up the numbers of cars thousands more expensive and as far as working with hard plastics in places I'll say it again. You likely wouldn't pay e92 money for a Mustang, not very many would.
  4. The boss 302 fully loaded was about 43k for the regular and 48k for the laguna seca edition; that's half of what a fully loaded e92 costs with better performance and damn good recaro's

Civics make great track cars because they're cheap as hell to run, have great suspension, and weigh next to nothing. To each his own. However, you don't find people paying big bucks for a used SRT-4 or GTI and you won't find them paying big bucks for a used ST either.

Awful compared to every Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and VW of the past 10 years. Pitiful in comparison, really. Squeaks, rattles, seat quality, panel gaps, and so on. They're awful. Admittedly, the new Focus is close, but the Mustang is crap on a stick.

I'm sure it's a great track car for the money. I wouldn't want to drive it on the street or a bumpy rode. The main reasons I said no to the Mustang are fuel economy and terrible handling on bumps. The last car I saw off the road on the canyon I live on was a Mustang. It was pointing completely face down, rear wheels hanging on the guard rail, just after a turn. Fortunately the drive was alright, but a couple more miles per hour of momentum and he might have died. The new Mustang may be an improvement, but I won't hold my breath.

I can assure you money is not an issue with him, he could probably track a 911 turbo if he wanted to. He just likes his Civic, and for a long time the resale on SRT-4's was obnoxiously inflated. I remember because for a while in college I tried to get my hands on one but couldn't find the fundage.

That's an untrue statement if I've ever seen one. That hasn't been entirely true since the previous generation mustang. The current gen mustang is VERY well put together and in my experience with them about the only rattles and squeaks come from suspension movement. Not to mention plenty of those five have multiple vehicles in their line-up that do just the same.

The fuel economy isn't terrible, the v6 manual gets 19/29 and the auto gets 19/31 which is roughly what the twins get. The v8 gets 15/26 manual and 18/25 auto; which is also far from terrible. That's pretty decent, especially for a v8. These days v8's sip fuel and crap daisies, they aren't the same fuel obliterating monsters they used to be. You saw one mustang crashed.... So? Plenty of cars crash, saying "after a turn" doesn't mean a thing. Crashing a RWD car is as simple as turning off the assists and not having the skill to compensate; never mind inclement weather. And there are a hell of a lot more stupid drivers in the world than there are good ones; it's not as though the twins are accident free. You're basing your judgements out of speculation, why don't you go test drive a new mustang instead of making baseless assumptions based on what they've done in the past and listening to Top Gear (like they ever give domestics anything but shit)

You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I honestly don't expect the next gen Mustang to get a significant weight/size reduction, regardless of the powerplant supplied. I'm still interested to see how it turns out though.

Regarding domestics, I can't say for other companies, but my daily for the past 3 years has been an '06 Fusion base model, and even in base trim, its a solid as hell car. Even though you might be able to attribute some of its finesse to the Japanese (Mazda specifically), its still a Ford that has given me no trouble over the years. The interior has held up as well as it can to my abuse, and as far as panel gaps? Don't know what you're talking about, the body flows nicely.

You know what I would be tickled to see? Ford bringing back the Probe (only not AS a probe, just named something different) in a RWD format. Keep the Mustang the 'big hitter' muscle car and have an even more affordable, smaller, lighter RWD sport coupe. They could even have Mazda produce it, for old times sake!

I've been saying for years if the domestic companies would produce a car like the FR-S (or AE86/ 240sx) I'd probably pick it over the Japanese counterpart. They just....love making heavy bulky V8 power cars and nothing else. Not my cup 'o tea.

I'm reminded of Clarkson bouncing on his squeaky seat in a new GT 500. Still crap. I could run a 911 if I really wanted to spend the money, but I have priorities. I was actually choosing between a used 911 and an FR-S. Hence the FR-S. 22 vs 19 rated city for the V6 is a big diff. Real-world mpg is 5.5mpg lower on the V6 Stang vs the FR-s. http://www.fueleconomy.gov

We own an 8yo Scion xA. It's bullet proof and better put together than any Ford I've test driven (Mustang, Focus ST, Fiesta). It's better put together than the equivalent year CTS-V too, and the last Mustang I test drove, a 2011.

You can keep denying reality, but it is still reality.

The Fusion, though, is a gorgeous car. Love the lines. The computer is crap, though.

I watched that episode as well, and came out at the end going..."Clarkson is REALLY getting old."

He is. Or at least, he's either getting old, or he's going out of his way to downgrade American car's (he's never liked them anyways). He picked the most track ready version of the Mustang, and then proceeded to do what you should do in a -real- GT car: Endurance driving. The regular GT would have gotten him there in the same amount of time, or even quicker (better MPG), and more comfortably. They picked the Shelby because, well, its a Shelby, and it fits the type of car's they drive on the show.

Only thing I can't debunk is his take on the interior plastics. Haven't seen them.
