A little history: bought a brand new 2012 si in January of this year and traded it in this past weekend for the brz. This comparison will be solely on daily driving as I don't track or anything else (yet).

In terms of power for daily commute the si wins hands down. It is much more torquey and responsive during the lower rpms. Another positive I liked on the si was the steering whel controls. Really liked using the phone through those buttons, adjusting volume, and controlling the cruise control (remember a lot of daily driving here). Also the electronic cluster was good, kinda sucks to go back to having needles in the gauges.

Why I like the brz more: I am 5'4" and on a good day, 5'5" so these seats fit me perfectly and comfortably. The si seats felt extremely wide and big. Sometimes I drive my two kids to school but they too like the rear seats better than the si. The overall handling and cosmetic designs is much better than the si which is no surprise. The si is starting to feel like an SUV to me after only 3 months and the brz definitely made me feel at home again. The best part: having conversations with strangers at the gas pump about this car. Nobody ever wanted to ask about the civic. Lost about three thousand on trading in the civic but definitely fell its worth now.

What makes me happy at the end if the day and th winner of this comparison: if you guess brz you are right lol
That makes me real sad to read. The best part of my BRZ is the snick snick of the precise-no-slop gearshift. The feel of the super tight steering wheel. The ultra quick throttle response. The induction growl at 4k+ when you step into it. The way the car slips just when you want it to. I could go on and on but it's all very real visceral driving sensations.

Talking about the car with strangers? That's the part I HATE the most. "Yeah, no turbo on this one" "Nope, not awd" "Yup only 200hp, but it feels really nice!" "Yeah, you'd probably smoke me in that sonata turbo" "Yeah, mustangs are way faster on the track." "Yeah, those are prius tires" "Yeah, it looks really fast and feels really fast but it's pretty slow" and on and on. I'm at the point where I just nod and say it's a fun car but I don't know much about it.

Top speed actually varies from 145 to 152 and some rare instances of over 160.

I think you take the definition of "top speed" too literally. Does it really count if you need 2 minutes of uninterrupted WOT? (not to mention a very convenient 2+ mile stretch of straight, downhill empty roadway, a tailwind, and the planets to align)

LOL I knew you would come up with some kind of response that didn't really have much to say. The car's top speed is 150 in most places but if you're around Colorado then you're sol. Whether you agree with that is entirely up to you.

I just prefer using the term "top speed" to describe a reasonably attainable top speed. Not what could happen, in only the most ideal conditions possible.

I don't know where you live, but there aren't any readily available roads in my region that meet the necessary criteria.

I'll give you this: That car hit 160. Whether or not the result can be duplicated by someone in less than perfect conditions is TBD.

By that logic, any vehicle [in which the gearing isn't the limiting factor] can achieve 160mph, given a straight enough road with a steep enough grade...

I don't think the average person owning an FR-S would be comfortable stating that their car's top speed was xxxMPH simply because some guy on youtube was able to find the best possible scenario to make it happen.

Don't want to stir the pot but then would you mean reasonable speed cause top indicates best possible though I do agree with you that needing a stretch that huge defeats the purpose.

I am still however impressed I didn't think it actually could

Though not as preferable as the FR-S in many ways, the Civic is still a great car with a great engine. Just the fact that it's in such close competition to the FR-S is a testament to Honda once again.

Bring back the S2000!
I agree, bring back the s2k.

Speaking of 2k, who the hell only puts $2000 down on a car thats 25k?

Still, overall the car looks fantastic, but when I get one to replace my s2000, I think it's going to have to come down by at least an inch based purely on aesthetics.

I was hoping for the 86 hood/fenders would have been closer to the S2000:
Agreed 100%. The chunky hood is the most disappointing styling aspect of this car for me.

Depending on finance rates, it might be wiser to use their money than your own.
