FRS/BRZ vs. 2013 Civic SI

I'm making this thread cause the other vs si thread went south and it didnt really involve the 2012 si. Anyway, i've been paying attention to the twins and the new si. the new si seems like a pretty good package this generation. It's about as light as the twins, only 100~ pounds heavier. They're also equipped with the k24.

so let's hear your thoughts on how these two compare.

It went south the moment you tried to compare it to the Civic Si. Honda have lost it man. Civic Si is nothing more but a "a bit faster" 2-dr coupe. It will not catch your attention on the road like the 86, nor will it handle like a real sports car.

fwd sporty vs rwd sport, the end.

I test drove an Si before I drove the BRZ. It was VERY underwhelming lol. I expected a lot more of that certain something that the BRZ does for me everyday. While it was a sweet little car it lacked character, and soul. The minute I sat in the berz I knew it was something special...YMMV.

New SI looks like shit.

JDMenrique 09-29-2012 11:57 AM

Still being a Civic owner and hopefully buying an FR-S this month, I agree that the new Civic looks like shit. I think thats the general consensus amongst other Honda owners as well.

The new Si's are quick, just as the FR-S'. Each has their own benefits. But what is keeping me from buying a new Si and going with the FR-S is that the Civic just feels like a kids car. Its almost like a phase that has just past.

Civic is a FWD compact sporty sedan platform. The twin is a RWD sport coupe platform, got a stunning look like a new 200hp Maserati/Ferrari. :)

is this the same si that got the 2.0 swapped for the acuras 2.5??? and that isn't as high revving as the old vtec of yore? and also that honda was dissappointed with in sales and took them back to the drawing board as far as design??

Honda have gone way to conservative over the past decade. They thought they could continue to ride the success from the past to sell unimproved/uninspired products. The current generation of Civic looks like crap in every trim level (yes, including Si). I used to be a big Honda fan and used to drive a RSX. Although not as good as the legendary Integra, it was still probably the last great car Honda ever made. With the market getting more and more competitive, Honda have already lost the battle.

idk about it being the last great honda. have they lost sight of the big picture? yea. the 8th gen was a hit. the 9th is a flop. whatever they do next will be playing catch up and unless they boost the SI or just come out with a new "somewhat affordable" platform, theyre done from the scene.

I refuse to put my input into this thread beyond I would go with the twins. However if
this is going to be more of a track car, pm me for a discussion.

Having come from a FWD car that's in the Si's class (Speed 3), I refuse to own a FWD sports/sporty car again. Even at their best, they're still clumsy and not particularly sporty - all it did was make me regret getting rid of my RX8, which is actually the entire reason I bought my BRZ. If you're just looking for a slight bump in power over all the practicality and economy of a regular compact sedan, a car like the Si will probably be just fine, but if fun is your focus I'd recommend sticking with RWD and AWD vehicles that were designed from the ground up with performance in mind.

right! no more discussion needed! "real" sports cars are NOT front wheel drive
too much weight bias on the front end! throws balance way off! end of discussion!
