mine came from Heuberger with Michelins, but that was last Oct. Also expect your tire valve caps to be green.

I bought the Subaru extended warranty in CA after. It comes with 800# road side assistant. That little card replaced my 30lb spare tires in my trunk, a big plus to save weight.

Thanks to you for your previous descriptions of the process, I was able to go to DMV today and get my registration and plates with minimal hassle! Here are my main points/tips:

1. Definitely go online and make an appointment. Check around the 3-4 DMV locations nearest you for the earliest appointment. At the Hayward DMV I was able to make an appointment last week for 9:00AM today (Tues). With my appointment I was in and out of there in less than 40 min, including having to pull up my car for VIN verification. Without an appt you will probably wait for at least an hour.

2. Smogged the car over the weekend for $45 before going in. Results were electronically sent to DMV and I had no issues with that.

3. CA sales tax was charged by Heuberger and added to my amount financed. Heuberger then cut a check back to DMV that I handed over to them along with the forms. Total fees for me was $2712. Which included the $2424 sales tax plus another $288 for 1 year of CA registration. If you need to pay some or all of that because you didn't have dealer charge that, then you can pay it at DMV with debit card, cash or check. No credit cards accepted!

4. Heuberger was nice enough to fill out and provide all the forms I needed, besides the smog cert. I did have to review it and fill out a few more things that they didn't. Almost forgot to fill in the Lienholder section for my bank that financed the loan, since I didn't finance through the dealer. Smartphone to the rescue, was able to look up and fill in that info while I waited at the DMV.

5. When the guy asked me when I brought it into CA, I said last week, within the 10-day reporting period under the law. So my registration is current and charged starting with that date.

6. Despite having a verification form filled out by Heuberger, CA DMV won't accept that, they need to verify it in-state. So I had to pull my car around the back for them to verify, they read the ODO reading off the dash display, and checked the VIN off the front, under the hood, and behind driver side door. So best get it done before you go hog wild with the CF body parts LOL.

7. That's it, done! Gave me two plates and current reg stickers. Now whether to put them on now or pull a Steve Jobs and go as long as I can without, flipping off red-light cameras as I go...
I have a few questions if you don't mind. I am expecting my car to arrive next week but I will be going out of country in mid April so I have only few days to take care of the registration.
  1. How long do you have after the car arrives to register in CA? I read on DMV that you have to register within 20 days.
  2. How long did it take for Heuberger to send you the required documents? I hope it is takes less than 20 days otherwise it defeats the purpose.
  3. What documents/forms does Heuberger prepare for CA DMV, and what documents/forms do we need to prepare?
  4. I believe sales tax and license fees is already covered by Heuberger. What additional fees needs to paid in CA?

Thanks!

1. You have 10 days to register in CA. But I don't think it is strictly enforced. When I brought my papers in to the DMV and they asked me when I brought the car into CA, I said 7 days ago.

2. It took them about 2 weeks (14 days) to send me the docs. I'm thinking if you really need them sooner you can ask them to make sure they expedite it to comply with CA laws. It wasn't a big deal for me.

3. they provide all the forms you'd need, except the smog certificate. The DMV form (forget what # it is called), the certificate of origin (like a title doc), the VIN verification form (although my DMV rejected it and asked me to do VIN verification there that same visit). A check made out from Heuberger to DMV for the sales tax costs (that they charged you already). You need to, in advance of the DMV visit if possible, take your car in to a smog place and get smogged. The test center will e-submit the cert to DMV but it's best to bring a hard copy of the pass results with you. The DMV form will be mostly filled out for you which makes it easy. I did finance through an outside lender not through the dealer, so I did have to fill out the section that indicates who the lien holder (the bank) is. I imagine if you financed through HB they will fill it out for you already.

4. HB charged me for sales tax but not for CA registration fees. So those are due at the time you register in CA. I paid about $288 or so at the DMV?

Reread the post of mine that you quoted - I think I actually answered most of these already back there.

Man so the 21st came and gone. My brz was scheduled to arrive on the 20th then pushed to 21st. Sales person still saying it shows the 21st. The eta is just that. I thought thee would be better tracking of cars nowadays even if they're traveling by rail and then truck to the dealership.

Just feeling uncomfortable with all this after a nightmare cross country purchase a year ago and recently having a loan officer steal $400 from me. Coupled with excitement and anxiety of getting the brz, I got to find a way to relax.

Did they say there's a truck leaving Monday? I doubt mine will be on it. I'm still waiting for my docs to arrive today, then send it out and they'll get it on Monday. Hopefully in the morning!

For SoCal, I was told they have transport trucks departing fairly regularly. My sales guy said Monday, but you never know when the processing might get delayed by another day or two.

enjoy your cars guys!

i waited anxiously all day saturday for fedex to deliver my documents but they never showed up! so now my delivery will probably be a week later.

heuberger is closed on sundays too, weird.

i'm also going to cancel the extended 6/60k warranty. its a good deal but it's just an extension of the 3/36, i'll just re-evaluate and buy it before the warranty expires 3 years from now.
