I always assumed accordions like that were for flexibility, because the engine can move due to torque and the intake is bolted to the chassis.

Most NA engines only generate much vacuum when idling or decelerating depending on where vacuum is measured (Intake Manifold Vacuum or Intake Piping Vacuum) and that maximum values are seldom more than 20Hg. Maximum vacuum of 29.9Hg is roughly equivalent to -14.7psi or one Barometric pressure unit (bar) and is extremely difficult to achieve. The ribbing allows manufacturers to make intakes out of less expensive, lighter weight, more flexible, longer lasting material that if it were rigid. Scott

Interesting design.
Puny compared to the Revolution CF airbox/scoop setup. ![]() But I'm sure it doesn't cost over $2K like that one. |

Like I said to a female co-worker of mine, "whether you bolt on A's or D's, they're still BOLT ON'S".

Looks like it has potential. Some of the TRD parts are really well designed and generally engineered at a high level from what Ive seen across the board. They do bring some cost though unfortunately.

Coming from the MR2 arena my experience is that the VAST majority of TRD products are in fact well built, designed to last, fit like factory, but provide only moderate gains for the most money spent. Not exactly what I would call economical.
At the end of the day, if you are building a "TRD" only car (as some are), or don't mind paying 25% higher than competing products for smaller improvements, TRD is a viable option. Meanwhile, in the real world (at least as I experience it) people seem to be most interested in getting the most value out of their dollars and TRD is routinely at the bottom of that list. Scott

My dealer just quoted me $525 installed for the TRD Cold Air Intake.
I just put a $500 deposit down to secure the next FR-S that comes in my color and got my dealer to give me a price list off all the available TRD/accesories I could get. |

We need more details about these options your dealer is talking of? I am curious? Where are you located in Texas?
