These are all issues they knew about but rushed into production. I am sure they will all be fixed for 2014, but we suffer in the meantime. Price we pay for being first.

Even the simplest car is an extremely complicated machine...you also have to remember the difference between a development vehicle and production. There is a lot of stuff that changes between the development and production stage, and sometimes those changes translate into minor little issues that can be fixed later through warranty work, TSBs, etc. The truth is that when you are in development your sample size is relatively small...when you get out into production, the sample size increases exponentially, and sometimes things happen that you can't see or predict on a small sample size.

I don't know why we keep talking about TSB for this kind of thing, this is a 5 minute fix TOPS. I fixed it in 5 minutes and there is no noise at all now. It was a place to cut corners in terms of cost and weight. Put in 5 minutes of effort guys and lets move on to problems that really need a TSB, this is not one of them.

Thank you for this - could you take a picture of the "Bottom Panel" you mentioned? Or at least explain that part a little better? I plan to do this when I get the car, as it seems like a common issue...thanks for the solution! You should post in the DIY section, for sure!

When I get a chance to take it off I will post some pictures. Kind of waiting on this insane cold spell to pass before I mess with the car any.

I understand that and appreciate it. I work in automotive R&D for a large automaker. Development ceases at a set point and no other changes are allowed, and test vehicles are built using production parts and assembly techniques. My point is all the issues would have been seen during this testing, and it was decided to forego making anymore changes and start productions with known "defects" - idle, deck pop, GPS, dead pedal, etc. It just seems like a car with so much riding on it, they would allow so many little things, and a few big ones like the ECU, to follow into production.

The testing is so rigorousness on cars, there is NO WAY every one of these issues wasn't seen, duly noted, and then ignored to rush production. Trust me, much smaller issues that the customer would probably never be aware of are usually caught during testing every day where I work.

Same here, must be a small design flaw. The pics would be really great for a dumb ass like me.

Thank you

so i didn't hear it much recently up until yesterday when the slightest touch would make all kinds of popping/grinding/clicking noises. I just looked at it and i noticed some of the clips going down the middle didn't seem secure. I just yanked at it and all the clips came out. I then held it down tight and put the clips back in, tapping them with the handle of my screw driver to make sure they were all the way in. Seems to have stopped it for now. Might just be the clips don't stay in properly all the time

Here is how you fix this problem. Take out the two Clips that hold in the foot rest, and put some kind of lube on them and then reinsert them and your popping noise problem will be solved. Get you a set of panel popping tools to remove those two clips. These clips are metal. They are kinda hard to get out. I would also try to look for some new ones from the dealer. They might have made them better over the last year.

Mine is not making any noises now. All I did was spray some electric contact cleaner on the end of each clip and then inserted them back in and I was good. If anybody knows of any better lube let me know.

I have this. C'mon... it's fun. I play with it everyday in traffic. Press up > Pop. Press down > Pop. Rinse and repeat.

in my case the problem was that even after lubing it up, it would move around so much with the clips all the way in that it would start acting up again. anyways, subaru gave me an awesome deal on a trade in for a brz limited so i took it. the dead pedal feels much more solid in this one and i haven't had any weird sounds coming from anywhere yet. time will tell though...

What direction do you move your foot to make the noise? As far as I can tell, mine is fine. Serial is 20000+, January 2013 production.
