Agreed.
Regardless of reasoning, most people on here who've actually thought about pricing pretty hard have decided that it's got to start around the mid-30's. Accounts for low sales volumes and allows Toyota AU to keep a nice fat profit. Edging closer to 40k for a base and the market opens up to cars that are much better equipped and spec'd. It's very logical that we're going to see ~35k for a base IMHO, although if it was a bit cheaper (maybe on road for 35k?) everyone would be absolutely cheering (and I think Toyota would have astronomical launch sales, haha). |

![]() Those are the prices of between the two countries. There is a massive difference between a few of them. From there you can try and guess what the FT86 will cost. These prices are taken from the two websites as starting and RRP. |

Well if it's low 20's in the US, low 30's here is definitely possible.

40K for a hairdressers car was a joke and a total flop for Toyota in this country. The headlights are plastic for f$#ks sake. As i said if its not under 30k then forget bringing the thing here, it simply wont be worth it. |

Apparently CRZ starts at 34,990 + Orc to 40k + Orc. I hope Toyota will match this for the FT at least.
They should be able to lower still as I'd think hybrid costs more to built??!! |

The other side of the argument is that they can open up with a high price and go down... if they're not shifting units they can keep reducing every year until they hit the sweet spot. If they start too low, they lose the sweet profit they would have made for the suckers who've been waiting for 3 years for this car, with the potential to stretch their funds to buy one. People are willing to pay more to be first in line... the volume car manufacturers sell in launch week for any car is amazing, despite full RRP and full dealer costs.
There's also the wealthy who'll buy one because 35-40k is pocket change, and if it's a cool car with a good image, they might pick one up for their garage. So it looks like image and marketing is going to be a fair amount of win for this car. |

They'll probably be looking at M3 or GTR. I think the creator of FT-86 has always said that this will be an 'affordable tuner car'. The wealthy wont want that! I'm just hoping so that they dont spoil the market here.... |

Also, if they put it at 40k on road, they're right in Commodore SS and Falcon XR6 Turbo territory.

It sounds like there will be limited numbers being produced, Low Supply and High Demand could mean they could afford to charge a bit more initially.
I remember the RX8 guys getting upset about their resale values when Mazda dropped the price of the RX8 ($55K down to $49K). Although do Toyota reduce prices a significant amount like that at all? |
