Just don't understand what your trying to say.

Ecutek gives us only stock tune files.

We make the tune, nothing base or off the shelf about that.

My point is that with both Ecutek and Unichip, tunes are available to you. You do not need to go visit a local tuner, or tune them yourself in order to make them work.

I fully understand how much work goes into those tunes.

I think you both are saying different words but meaning the exact same thing. He means each tuner has a tune they give out as a 'stock' tune. As in there are a few tunes that each tuner has per car setup. Not that there is a base map file they are given and just distribute.

Jack and Visconti are both tuners but just use different devices.

I question the UniChip maps that are set up for all the different intakes and exhausts, did they purchase every one of the intakes and exhausts on the market? I also believe that every car is different and some react differently to certain mods and combinations, with Ecutek you actually get a tune for your car.

I saw a thread where UniChip was selling two different intakes that they said were used in developing tunes, so I would be led to believe that YES, they are developing tunes based on actual parts.

But you are correct that not every car will act the exactly same. I would imagine that there is some factor of safety built into UniChip tunes just for that reason. I'm a fan of safety, but obviously that means it would not be tweaked to full potential. A personalized Ecutek tune should perform better than a "one size fits all with this parts combo" tune.

Different strokes for different folks. I'm interested in both, but haven't decided how I'm going forward with my car yet.

For Unichip, they have maps for the intakes they have tested. With those maps, you can then choose whether you have a header back, catback or stock exhaust, so the exhaust tunes are more generic.

Then they add in the different octane tunes, and then tunes in between (fuel in or out, timing in or out).

For example, on my car I would pick the Injen tune with a catback exhaust. On the basic Unichip device, you can store two tunes, so I have picked the 89 octane tune and 92 octane tune. Being in California with crappy 91 octane gas, the car runs better on the 89 octane tune. However, I can download a a 92 octane tune that has extra fuel, or pulls timing a little and try those to see if they work with the CA 91 gas. It is up to me, the end user, to try those tunes and see what works best with my personal car.

They also sell a Flex device that store up to 5 maps at a small additional cost.

I know for a fact that Jack tested and tuned at least 4 intakes with my stock exhaust and with my exhaust on the dyno and on the road (to ensure load) and optimized each tune for each set up. (that was a long 6 weeks without the car)...if it matters at all the tune i was using compared to a local ECUTek tuners custom tune for his car were very similar in power after adyno at his shop. And if that nth degree left over in the tune is too much left over you can go to a UNIChip tuner and get custom tuning for "your" car as well...example MAXRPM, they do custom tunes for Porsches, G35s etc...

Cool, i wasn't aware of this it would have been nice to see the results of it. I still prefer Ecutek, everybody has their preferences and i prefer not to have to plug in to all the stock sensors. Nothing bad against Unichip just not my style.

As Joe mentioned, to each their own.
My preference is to have something fully transferable so I can sell it if I decide to go another route later on. I'm not limited to this and could be open to something like Ecutek in the future. But my preference are bolt on (or plug in) mods at the moment.

Yes, we buy/get (thanks to all the companies that send samples... UPS just dropped off 2 from K&N), install, and calibrate all those parts.

Yes, every mass produced car is different they but all have adaptive ECU's to normalize each car to ensure it runs pretty much like every other car... emissions, power, mileage, etc…

Normalization is the only way mass produced vehicles can all run without constant attention. You can essentially drive until the parts wear out without a "tune up" and you can pull the ECU out of one and put it into another and it will act pretty much the same once adapted... for a little more info, read... http://www.unichip.us/265-faq-ecu-learning

Even with normalization, small variances (median and standard deviation… anyone, anyone…?) remain which is why we offer maps with slightly more fuel, slightly less fuel, slightly more timing, slightly less timing, and every combination of all of the above. You can download them at home in about a minute and see which one your particular car likes best.

As mentioned by some Unichip users above - thanks - you can also either go to a shop and have tuned or can get the software and tune it yourself. Depends on your personal $/bhp tolerance.

From what I can tell does, it does not seem like anyone has done this.
