The S5 does look and sound better though. I'd love to pick up a used 2013 S5 3.0T 6MT someday...

Even better would be a 2013 RS5 with that killer V8. That is one car I would love to have, along with a Cayman R for track duty.

Owned an Audi A4 for 10 years. Then I owned a Cadillac CTS with the 3.2L Catera motor in it. Those will be the last German engineered cars that I own due to the expense of maintenance and difficulty of working on them.
For the record the CTS chassis is great but the 3.2L motor would be best used as a boat anchor. Also I have never seen a used Audi or VW that did not have an almost perpetual CEL displayed on the dash. My advice would be to proceed with caution as far as the TTS goes. In addition to the engine issues stated above the front suspension is also rather fragile and you can easily drop a couple thousand replacing parts there once the car gets up in the 60K mile range. For 40K I would buy a brand new Cadillac ATS with the 4 cylinder turbo and AWD. They are not sports cars but then neither is the TTS. Good luck with your purchase no matter what you decide.

I think the longest I've had the CEL off on my GTI was about 500 miles. I love the car anyway because it's extremely practical and pretty quick in its own right on decent tires, but it's not a cheap car to keep on the road :P
Not that its "unreliable" or whatever-- its never stranded me-- but having to pay a good ~$200/yr extra to make the CEL go out so it can take its emissions test is annoying. |

Thanks for the input guys
The CPO TTS was sold last week. Really wanted to atleast test drive it. Last night I drove by a Toyota dealership with a Whiteout FRS parked in front of the lot. Damn I forgot how great the twins look in person. Guess I'm back on the hunt for a WRB BRZ. |

The TT-S is still just a fancy Golf, that's a lot of money to pay for a chassis that also have $15K new cars on it. Golf R is the same car with 4-doors and more practicality.

Yeah I really don't get the Audi thing. Sure, an R8 could be fun (although my sister-- who really loves driving-- drove an R8 a while back and said it was very fast but not very engaging to drive on public roads) but just generally speaking they don't seem like driver's cars...
Audis are pretty to look at, but I don't think I'd buy one. v0v |

My Vw Spotwagen has zero issues. As long as you do proper maintenance, and on the diesels add a lubricant to the fuel, you will have no hpfp issues at all. I was lucky enough to find a manual trans car and we love every minute of it. I average 45 mpg hand calculated and the car only has 20k miles so far. To me the only thing lacking on this car is awd. A few people I know with more miles on their Sportwagens are now into the low 50 mpg range. I have had 3 Vw's so far and they have all been problem free. Maybe I am just lucky. If I could afford an R8 V10, it would be in my garage. Nothing like the sound of a V10 at full song.

One of the reasons I got a BRZ was to have fun at lower speeds-- there's nothing wrong with a well-balanced car, but if they're well-balanced and absurdly grippy like the R8 you don't get to explore the limits of the car on public roads. The BRZ's biggest contender when I was considering what to buy was actually a used 135i. One of the reasons I went for the BRZ instead was because of how fast a properly set-up 135 is-- it's just a little nuts. The problem is that you start having "fun" when you hit about double the speed limit on back roads-- it's fun to do but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it. I'm hoping my BRZ will have a much more useable performance envelope :P Don't get me wrong, I think the R8 is an awesome car and I'd have one as a secondary vehicle in a second if I had the cash. As for the other Audis, they are extremely nice to look at but BMWs aren't heinous either and I'd definitely have one of them over their Audi-equivalent-- they just drive so nicely out of the box. |

Even if the audi is CPO there is a certain piece of mind knowing everything that has ever happened in your car. I'd go with the new car.

This was the same boat I was in a few weeks back, but I was torn between the 135i CPO and the BRZ. Ended up with the BRZ. It was/is a great choice, but i will say this... I do miss some options I had on my G35 I traded in.

Oh well. Yeah, there are a lot of things I'll miss about the 135, but I think the Subie will be less likely to result in absurd speeding tickets and/or massive accident. Plus I can still drive my dad's 135 occasionally, so if I ever miss torque I can always go get a quick hit of 420ft/lb :P |

I know its a moot point now that the TT was sold, but for 40k I would rather get a new, fully loaded, Golf R. Practically the same car with far more practicality. With simple bolt ons and a proper tune and you're easily hitting 300+hp too. While it also uses a Haldex-based AWD system, its not particularly terrible and still maintains a lot of grip in the twisties.
