Guys, its like sunscreen or a condom, you dont HAVE To wear it, but wearing it lets you have more fun when you're at the beach, and lets you enjoy gettin busy with a lower risk of getting pregnant.

Can you track it OE 'unprotected', sure, but why risk it if youre planning on pounding on it in the heat and making her scream? Will 0w20 oil be fine at 250F? yes, it will be just fine. Good clean oil and those temps= no problem for the DD.

You can still get burned or get pregnant, just much less likely with the precuations, right?

I've never tracked a car without a oil cooler present.

I also admit I have gotten a girl pregnant while using protection.

so adding an oil cooler is no 'insurance policy' against failure, thermal or otherwise, but seems anyone who wants to get busy better put one on, or risk getting burned, or knocked up etc. We all know how to take calculated risk, calculate yours.

No brainer, add oil cooler, feel safer tho a bit poorer, pick your flavor, home made, Perrin, HKS if HPDE and track are words outta your mouth. there. Now you have my 2 pennies of helpfulness. /end thread?

For the record, my wifes DD 86 is NOT FI, and will never ever see the track. Ever. It is still getting an oil cooler, wont hurt MPG and will help keeping oil cool. Those both plusses in my book, sold.Does this apply to the guy living north of Mt Shasta or up in Portland? Prolly NOT, unless youre tracking it or doing HDPE.

The fact that our car doesnt have one from factory has nothing at all to do with engineers or whats best for the car, on or off track. Its about cost to market, and we'd all have paid a few hundred bucks more if it had the oil cooler OE.

We dont know this 'girl' that well(our cars are still new) and she comes off frisky and very ready and willing to play, and its pretty sunny where I leave, so bring on the protection, I say spend the money add the cooler. It IS the right thing to do.(Disclaimer: just my opinion!)

Guess I am not sure what we are testing for, we know its thin oil, and runs hot, what more do we hope to learn or baseline?
I am all for getting data and all, but I can not volunteer my car on a track for data acqusition of temps without a oil cooler. wont do it.
not trying to stir the pot, just wanting to help as household with two FT86 cars both getting oil coolers.

I feel pretty good dispensing advice that says 'play it safe if you're gonna be in the sun and trying to have fun'

Gem, the point of this thread is simple. Get numbers and data. Not just opinions. Based on that data, each individual can make their OWN opinion on how it is needed or not in their particular situation. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

I am not asking you to donor your car. There will be plenty of people chiming in.

I want people to freely come in and post their data so it can be read in one single place and make their own opinion. If you don't like or see the idea unnecessary, just stay out of it. Don't worry, we will figure it out.

so, no harm done man, I wanted to collect data another way, is that okay?
leave both open I say, hardly a call for moderation, or closing of threads, but you guys are the bosses here so ...

or just add a more complex poll to yours perhaps??

I too am interested in collecting the same data as you, different folks go about it different ways ...surely if we can be tolerant of far less useful out threads, the forum can handle my poll! C'mon, you know I have my way of doing things, its not wrong just different. No harm meant Guy!

If you wanted a poll, it was as easy as suggesting it for me to add it to the thread and keep all data in the same spot.

That is why piss off people here Gem, not everything has to be done your way, nor you need to come into other people's thread to say stuff like "I don't see the point of this thread".

The Oil temp information should remain all in the same thread, to make it easier for people to search. Add to this discussion whatever you want, BUT first understand this is not an opinion thread, and second, we want to capture all and any data so that each person makes THEIR OWN opinion based on all test data. I am not going to tell anyone how or why they need an oil cooler, THIS is NOT the thread for that.....

My Turbo Kit should be installed before the end of the month, so I will start logging temperatures with a TC kit soon.

Got some drag racing data yesterday.
Full Blown Stage 1 Turbo Kit on E85 400+ HP
Ambient Temperature 65 F

No Oil Cooler, Made 9 quarter mile passes in the 12 second range

Oil Temps never went over 212 F

I know this isn't near the same abuse as road racing but it is WOT with high HP on the warmest day we've had here so far.

Just thought I'd share!

Since I could not get my "pipes" ceramic coated, I took the plunge and bought @robispec's Total Cooling solution.....

So looking forward to having that beast already installed!

This sounds like a feasible solution and one I'm considering, pending some more real world street temp data. Or, maybe I'll have to man up and guinea pig this myself.
Keep in mind my temps are right after the cooler, they'll be warmer shortly after

Ahhh. I didn't take into consideration the location of your temp sensor. Thanks!
