Enjoy you're crippled car. Enjoy being slower, more expensive, less reliable, less versatile, heavier, and more boring. Because that's the fun part of owning a fun car, you know, seeing how unfun you can make it; bonus points for paying more to do so.

You know what I did when my g/f couldn't drive my car? I taught her how. I know guys who would prefer a manual but their wives force them to drive an automatic because they refuse to learn to drive a stick, despite the fact that they never use their husbands car, and the husbands don't have the balls to press the issue. It's pathetic and sad.

Being unwilling to learn to drive a manual shows a lack of love for learning, not higher cognitive function. If you do know how to drive a manual and still chose an automatic in your small sports car than maybe you should choose something more in line with what you really want, because a small fun sports car isn't it. Or perhaps you just need a computer to do the thinking for you, I know 6 forward gears can be pretty complicated to sort out all by yourself. You're definitely too smart to waste precious cognitive ability on shifting.

p.s. After you've been swapping the cogs around yourself for a bit it really becomes "automatic." Modern clutches are very light/easy as are the shifters, the twins are no exception. Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap POS with a stick, learn it and live with it for 3-6 months. You might just be surprised how easy it really is. Driving is an amazing mechanical process that never ceases to entertain me, the fact that I can get in my car and less the 24 hours later be halfway across the country is just truly incredible! How much more spoiled do you need to be?
I was swapping cogs probably before you were born and am quite aware of the "automatic process " of shifting. I suggest you re-read many of Dadhawk's reasonable and fair comments regarding auto vs manual to fully understand why some choose either transmission. Dadhawk, myself and many others on this forum learned with unsynchronzed transmissions (do you comprehend what those are?). I was on the fence regarding which transmission to go with and ultimately chose the auto as it is based on the Lexus IS-F transmission and one of the best out there and provides multiple choices of how to shift. So our choices were NOT made on the ability to shift a manual transmission, which can be taught to any 8 year old, but rather a preference for a not inconsequential advanced transmission. I am fine with your choice of transmission but degrade other's choices without any factual context is asinine in the extreme. You will not do well in society.

:To deviate from the thread hijacking currently taking place:

Honestly, I'm glad that Scibaru managed to get some good press for this car: it's freaking amazing. Plus it's not like you're going out and seeing them everywhere (literally) like a Prius or a Mustang (no offense to those who drive 'em). The FR-S/BR-Z is still a pretty rare car in the grand scheme of all cars on the road, and from what I understand the 2013 model isn't going to be in production for much longer. That being said, if you're worried about the individuality of your car, mod the hell out of it. Make the car yours, even though driving it and getting to know it pretty much takes care of that.
My FR-S is the first car that's really mine, everything else I've "owned" was someone's car before me. So, seeing as it is my car and not some other driver's with good taste, I'm going to customize and tweak it to my heart's content. If it's within your financial means, I suggest you do the same as I hear working on cars (or having projects in general) is a very therapeutic experience.

Yes!

There is great pleasure to be found in mastering the machine. It is a Good Thing that it can be difficult to master all the elements of driving quickly and WELL. It's an accomplishment that is immensely satisfying when I get it all just right. Braking, changing down through the box, heel-and-toe, gracefully arcing into the turn, nailing my apex, and running out to my trackout point.

I understand that an automanual, paddle-shifter gearbox is faster, but it's not about TIME, it's about DRIVING the machine and seeking perfection of performance. The BRZ allows me to do this at lower speeds and in a way that is wonderful. The manual transmission is more enjoyable precisely BECAUSE it is more difficult to do well when blended in with all the other tasks of driving quickly and WELL.

I do not want to sit in my car with nothing, finally, but a JOYSTICK.

That would be too easy.

My manual gearbox is part of being CONNECTED, despite the fact it is fast becoming an anachronism.

-Porsche (who likes his "old" mechanical watches, too. No batteries; can you imagine? Just precision machinery.)

P.S. Want to buy a brand new Dornbluth?

Honestly, so will I. I know how to drive one, but I've never been able to connect with it like others seem to be able to. It's probably because I'm an uncoordinated klutz but it never transitioned from the "chore" stage for me, especially in mixed slow traffic. I fully understand that people love them, though, and I'm never in favor of less choice, as much as I may love flappy paddles.

I will say, however, that CVTs suck and I wish nothing but bad things for them.

My fiance's 2012 Ford Fiesta has an automatic CVT transmission... I don't think I've ever driven a car with a crappier gearbox. I would really like to try a car with a double clutch gearbox and flappy paddles, but anything with one is going to be well out of my price range.

The feeling from a manual just can't be beat though... Especially in a car like the FRS that is all about teh feels.

I test drove a Fiesta with dual clutch and went away completely unimpressed. Ford has had a lot of warranty problems with these transmissions.
