They're not. Alcantara is a perfectly durable material. I think a lot of people here are still trying to convince themselves that they like the premium seats better.

No doubt, most of it is subjective. As Zaku and I have stated, the Premiums are familiar to us due to having similar ones in the past, so there's probably some nostalgia factor there. Personally, I'm OCD as all hell, and anything with a knap (carpet, suede, corduroy, whatever) drives me crazy! I'd be constantly brushing the Alacantara with my hands every time I got out of the car!

I do prefer the Limited bolsters, though. The microfiber in the Premiums is a total lint magnet, and it seems like they might get mangy over time. Like I said, I'd like a combo of both.

Those who sleep on the street will say they prefer sleeping on the street. Those who live in the mansion say they prefer living in a mansion.

I dunno, that kinda implies that people lie to themselves to justify the hand they are delt, no? Sure, oftentimes that's the case when the other hand is unattainable, but this is a pretty meager variance. I'd compare this to maybe preferring a moderate apartment over a similar moderate apartment with a "WELCOME" mat in front of the door.

In any event, I'd rather live in a mansion. My house sucks!

I agree entirely, it was the deciding factor for me in choosing the premium. I have an Audi S6 that is chock full of Alcantera, but after many years of ownership, it still is just fuzzy polyester to me. I like the fabric they used in the premium seats.

I love these limited seats. Alcantara is your firend! It gives the BRZ an upscale look and feel.

The bolsters are leather, yes, but you don't even notice it while sitting in the seats, it never gets very hot or very cold. The Alcantara covers the majority of the seat and has the same heating/cooling qualities of fabric, but actually holds you in place much better.

Alcantara will be equal to the Premium fabric in terms of wear. How it looks is a totally objective statement.

As far as "hold" goes, the Alcantara has really great grip properties and because your butt, legs and back are all attached to that the "hold" is likely just as good as the fabric seats.

I didn't care too much about the seats but it was the other options of the Limited that really drew me in. I'll also note that in the winter when it is near 0 degrees F outside, heated seats are great regardless of your seat material.
I think you mean that how it looks is SUBJECTIVE since there is no objective criteria to determine what looks better and will change by who you ask. As this thread makes pretty clear.

Also I know from experiences leather and alcantara don't hold up as well as standard cloth. Maybe you've had a different experience but that has been mine with all the cars I've had.

Besides the whole "who ever didn't get the more expensive version is trying to justify their purchase" is getting kinda old. That's the same thing m3 owners are going to say about our cars and the same attitude that mustang and muscle car owners will say we are doing when we say yeah our car is slow but it corners better blah blah. It is possible that people get stuff based on personal preference not because they can't afford to do the "next level" up.

Personally I hate the feel of leather seats. I chose the premium primarily because it didn't have the "upgraded" seats. Had there been an option to get all of the other features of the limited but with cloth seats I would have gladly gone that route.

Thanks for the correction.

I think it depends on the cloth and the wear points. My dad has old Audi's with leather that looks new as the day he got it, and I've had Civic's from the same years in which you have a hard time finding a seat where the bolsters -arent- worn.

I haven't had a car with Alcantara in the center sections of the seat before, so I'm not how the wear will be.

Some simple searching found this:

http://www.alcantara.com/#/en/menu/c...and_technology

Resistance is one of the main characteristics of Alcantara®, which can endure up to 150.000 Martindale cycles. This means that its surface remains unvaried even after sitting on it 20.000 times!

http://blog.kothea.com/2009/06/26/ma...s-wyzenbeek-3/

For Heavy Duty Usage you should specify:
30,000 double rubs Wyzenbeek method; or
40,000 cycles Martindale method.

I for one am not super worried about the Alcantara wearing any faster than the fabric seat.

Conclusion:
Some people like fabric.
Some people like leather.
Some people like Alcantara.
Some people may wear out fabric.
Some people may wear out leather.
Some people may wear out Alcantara.
Some people may wear out all materials.
Some people may not wear out all materials.
Some people don't give a shit.
