But most aftermarket HID kits don't offer auto-leveling, which is important for safety and law compliance.

Hmm, maybe I need to do more research about that. I've never heard of anyone locally getting a ticket for aftermarket HIDs, but then again I had mine installed correctly, properly level, so that they would not shine too high and blind others. It is also important to use proper bulbs in projector housing. Those bulbs have restrictive coating that prevents them from shining too high, I think they are D2S type bulbs.
There are plenty of people with annoying fake blue, purple, yellow, I've even seen orange lights, and they don't see them getting tickets.

Technically, depending on the state, it's illegal to modify any 'safety device' on a car. So when I left out DRL's on my car after doing an HID retro I was technically breaking the law.

I haven't ehard anything about auto-leveling headlights? Do they adjust based on the incline of the road you're on? I simply had to level the headlights myself after installing them to be sure they weren't pointed skyward.

Simply swapping HID bulbs and ballasts in a halogen projector may not be the best way to go. Many halogen projectors I've seen have light bleeding above the cutoff and adding HID bulbs will simply increase glare for oncoming drivers. It would be best to do a complete retrofit which includes HID projectors. And for the color-lovers, clear lenses.

Would be very VERY interesting if there was a convertible version of the FRS/BRZ...

not difficult to switch...but on the IS250 it requires drilling 1 inch holes.
HID kits i found was about $200-$300.

Hopefully if this is the case there will be some donor projectors with the same similar dimensions. I'm not to keen on having to mod the entire FR-S housing since based on the leaked pics it's look like they did a pretty good job looks wise.
