Think I need to pick up some of the Pentosin but I'm unsure of how much is needed. I'll need to look it up or search threads for it.

Edit: Found it. 2.2L for the Transmission, 1.3L for the Diff.

Im heading to the dealership today, am going to be a big stick up their asses (im very good at it) till its resolved. Ive already been told, "it needs to break in more" which is bullshit. I mentioned that MANY are changing out the fluid with great success; As you can imagine I was told (in a nice way) that I was an idiot.

BTW: TWO different Toyota dealership service centers are under the impression that the motor is the same exact one used by Subaru for years now. Exactly the same!
And so are the transmissions.
The oil doesnt need to be changed for at least 7000 miles! My car has a 5000 miles sticker on it, they said that was a mistake and was meant for Toyota cars. Teh FR-S gets it first oil change at 7000, next one at 14000 and so on!
Gear box oil? NEVER needs to be changed, changing it is just a waste of money and again, im an idiot!
1st gear clunk from rear end is normal; I've had that since dya 1.

If I engage 1st gear immediately after depressing the clutch pedal I get the rear "clunk". I just ignore it these days.

Btw, when I called my dealership and spoke to my service advisor about the problems, he proceeds to tell me that they have not had a single transmission complaint in several years. Lol. I just hung up after that.
Yeah, I found that too. Also found that when coming to a stop; clutch in, I'll push in/out of 1st before releasing the clutch. Then when im ready to go again, 1st engages smoother.
Whats bothersome is that the fist 500+ miles were fine.

The dealer service department dont know the car!!
I knew allot more about the car than ANY of the sales staff at Scion, even the branch manager.

I get the clunk sometimes when I'm ordering fast food and I sit there for a bit and knock it into gear. That's really the only time I've heard it and due to the number of people that have realized it, I would say it is normal.

So the Pentosin is a 75w-80 and the owners manual calls for a 75w-85 or 75w-90. The lighter weight may very well be a good thing in cold climates but here in CA, where extended summer temps can get pretty hot, I'm not sure I'm comfortable going to a lighter weight grade than the factory recommendation.

Go with what makes you comfortable. Just because it's in the manual doesn't mean that it's perfect engineering. Plus there is more to lubricants than just weight. More to reference:
