I emailed back and forth with the fleet manager, at my scion dealership ahead of time. He had the car prepped and ready to go when I got there, we test drove it and filled out the paperwork and I was on to the finance guy. They had no extras installed on the car except for stuff I would have wanted anyways, like floor mats, so I paid base price.

The finance guy was not the typical finance guy, it might have helped that it was 9PM at night by the time we got to him, but he didn't give me the guilt trip on warranties or maintenance packages or anything. So that went smoothly as well. In fact he seemed apologetic at one point, saying something like, "I have to ask you about these items, as part of my job." So I walked out of there with exactly the price I negotiated over email.

Could not have gone smoother. Believe me I have experienced pushy dealers as well in my time. I would not buy anything from a Nissan dealership, as soon as you walk through the door it feels like you're interrupting a mafia meeting.

The previous Toyota dealership where I bought my truck was kind of sketchy as well, totally pushy on the warranties, and I negotiated for 3 or 4 hours to get the price I wanted to pay. Could have saved me and my fiance hours of time if they had just accepted my offer or said no instead of pulling the entire management team into huddle after huddle. What a joke that was, it was like a cartoon of a car dealer transaction. Until I bought my FR-S I thought all of them were going to be like that, and I went in gritting my teeth. Went pretty well though I thought.

Well isn't it because you paid MSRP for the car? That's why it went so smoothly? Any dealer or salesman would be as happy as a clown to sell you a car at MSRP.

If you paid MSRP for your Toyota you would have saved 4 hours.

Well, there was no MSRP for the truck (tacoma x-runner with TRD s/c), it was used when I bought it. They also had a ridiculous sticker price on it that I was never going to pay – I already knew what the truck was worth. However you are right, paying sticker of course saves time. I mostly was sharing my experience because a lot of people seem to be having issues with the dealer-added options and the way they use those to make a lot more profit and mark up the car. In general the Scion dealer made me feel a lot better about the transaction than the Toyota dealer where I bought the truck. Aside from research, the only work I did was over email in advance, contacting all the dealerships in the area to get pricing and interest rate quotes. My main concern from reading this forum was finding one without all the "extras." I figured the car is probably worth about what the MSRP is, the things are flying off lots everywhere.

Scion offers the $1,000 military discount to everyone, just like they offer the soon-to-graduate/recent graduate discount of $500. Toyota offers a $500 military discount, and a $1000 graduate discount. I'm not sure whether you're referring to Toyota or Scion, since Toyota doesn't offer Pure Price, but Scion does.

They only offer a military discount towards a 'new' vehicle. Every used vehicle they sell has a "Fair Value price", which is no different than a pure pricing, you cannot negotiate because the price has already been set. But I acted like I wasnt going to buy the car and was about to leave the dealer and then they threw me that $1,000 off. I also did my research so I know the car that I bought was a steal. My trade-in probably had an impact on it as well.

"Rudy Luther Toyota Scion has been selling and servicing Toyota vehicles since June 1977. We make price the easy part of your buying experience. We base our pricing on current market value. We call it the Luther Fair Value Price. We focus on giving you the information you need to make a well informed decision while making sure you have the best experience possible. Our customers told us that the most unpleasant aspect of buying a new vehicle was the negotiating process. So we changed it."

Yep, as long as you're willing to walk away, you'll be fine.

Or just do like me and buy over the phone/internet from a Dealership in another state who's WILLING to work with you and treat you right. Use a customer-friendly Dealership 5 states away to leverage against your local un-friendly dealership if you have to. It definitely worked for me!

Cars.com was awesome for finding the lowest price too!

I got a quote online, then went into the dealer. It took several hours but I did finally get the price I wanted and they threw in a bunch of adds-ons.

I emailed a delearship asking for an out the door quote for a manual firestorm frs with a spoiler. I was emailed back an out the door price and a vin; they just so happened to be getting one in next month. I went to the dealership where they tried to play all their games and sell me the same car for $4k more. Since I had my email I just had to wait until they got tired/ran out of tricks and finally agreed to my email quote. The dealership didn't want to wait until next month to sell me the car, so they asked if it would be okay for them to sell me a different frs as long as it was red, manual, and had a spoiler. They found an frs from a different dealership that also happened to have bespoke, mud guards, carpet trunk mat, fl legal tint, and shipped it to their dealership. Then they sold me that frs for my price.

All you guys who think you got a good deal, tell us how much you paid for title, license, doc fees, and any other additional bullshit fees they added that wouldn't be paid to a normal car company that they claim MUST be paid because of the non-negotiality(yes, I made that word up) of Pure Price?

Go buy any other brand and you pay tax, title, and license only if you know what you're doing. With Scion, you must pay whatever doc fee that dealership has, and quite a few of my local Scion dealers try to add something called VIT(vehicle inventory tax), or another bullshit fee labeled "vehicle emissions testing".

Does anyone here have a sales sheet showing TT&L only? If so, I bet they hugely overcharged on one or more of those 3. Title and license for example is slightly over $100 for both combined. Double check the rate they taxed you too, they might have rounded it up 1/4 or 1/2% or more.

Pure Insult.

Why are any of you haggling for hours? Just pick up the phone and call every dealership that has the vehicle you want that you found through Auto Trader listings, give them your drive out price and say you want a yes or no answer only. Rinse and repeat until one accepts. You'll most likely have one or more of the previous dealers calling you back anyway, but too late for them.

Since I really have nothing better to respond with to your post, I'm just going to point out that non-negotiability is a real word you could have used instead of making one up.

That only works if they're sitting on the lots. They're selling like hotcakes out here and only just starting to slow down, all the dealers I talked to just laughed and knew that the car would sell in less than 24 hours with heated leather seats for $30k+ whether I wanted them or not. And they did.

To answer your first question: about $27,380
