No. When I bought it it gave me the option to preload the map so I did. I did not buy the cable. The Unichip has the map # and came with a certificate with the map # on it so I'm pretty sure there is no mistake

Race Gas/Octane Booster

I like playing around on what I can do to the car with the unichip...

That being said I was interested on race gas, mainly to keep me busy until e85.

Long story put short, I loaded fuel out/Timing In and wanted to experiment what a half tank of 93 pump mixed with race gas (110 octane) would put out. Sadly I drove, just to find the pump reading out of order(Not sure if Race gas is seasonally)...Luckily the station wasn't out of the way.

So next best bet, octane boosters...now there's a debate on how well they actually work. I picked up (NOS) because it was the only one that stated up to 60 points (6+ Octane) increase in a 16 gallon tank. Since my tank was half full and our tank at max is only 13 I decided to pour half of it in...Started up and drove to school...

So what did I notice??? The car felt faster down low...but was this a placebo effect? I decided to do some zero to sixty times, like I did a few nights ago (just got the torque app).

Best time before my experiment: 7.47 (Few Runs)

Best time with NOS!!!: 6.77
Other times: 6.95, 7.07, 7.17, 7.02

So what did I learn...well it works haha

The problem is I'm not sure what the octane booster did? Did it raise it to 93.5, 94, 95?? Not sure and I would love to try race gas to get a better combination. I might order Torco Accelerator (Actually race gas from what I understand in a bottle haha)

haha I know this log is all over the place...I wrote this right when I got home...EXCITED!

Edit:My times are from a stand still, no brake revving...

I clocked 6.4 to 60. I think I can do better. I'm waiting for my USB OBDII reader to come in so I can get some more accurate data logging and I'll do a 0-60 and 1/4 hopefully.

But what do you think you get from a standstill? hehe the positive of the auto is I can get to 60 in second.

I wonder if I added a drop in with the stock summer tires if I could hit 6.5? I might be able to get more out of the "gas mix"?? Who knows what octane is really in my tank now

I have a manual, that was from a stop. Reasonable launch but I think I could have had the revs just a bit higher. I'll be posting a bunch of data in my unichip review thread once I can get some more logging in.

update:

I had some time with it today using map 1 (aggressive). I change my mind about there being no difference although the difference is not as immense as people on the forums make it seem. It definitely pulls harder when you get in the higher revs (especially after the TQ dip). The chirping cricket sound also went away interestingly, we'll see if it comes back.

imo one of the amazing things about the tune is I got 3.5 more mpg on average in my morning commute trying to drive normally. Taking account the active thought of driving normally causing me to drive abnormally I'd say at LEAST a 2mpg gain on 50/50 local highway driving which is awesome. (averaged 29.5 up from 26).

Having the tune long term would probably end up paying for itself if these results are consistent. 3 extra mpg = 30 miles extra per tank = ~5 dollars saved per tank = money back in about 70 fillups = money back in 3 years give or take lol (and of course all the speed benefits of the tune =p). just a fun guestimate.

You should really do some research on octane boosters before dumping that crap into your car.

Most "octane boosters", including the one you're using, contain a bunch of kerosene and a little bit of MMT (Methylcyclopentadienyl Manganese Tricarbonyl) to raise the octane, which is bad news for any car with a catalytic converter. During combustion, the manganese is liberated from the compound. This manganese vapor is then deposited on your spark plugs and in the fine mesh structure of your catalytic converters. The deposits in the cats can significantly obstruct exhaust flow and impede the ability of the cat to do its job with regards to NOx emissions.

MMT will not make your octane nearly as high as the feel of it in your engine would seem to lead you to believe. This is because MMT makes your fuel denser and burn slightly longer giving you additional torque than simply higher octane couldn't achieve. This process also can have the unfortunate result of contributing to gunk build up in the injectors and valves, especially if used in excess of .8 oz per gallon.

Wow thank you for all of that... I really didn't know all of that...

That being said I actually order Torco yesterday, I wouldn't call that a octane booster...it concentrated race gas.
