People in major cities like the greater houston area won't see ethanol free gas because ethanol is required in large population areas.

While it is true that ethanol has a higher octane rating that gasoline, the overall octane rating of E10 or non-ethanol gasoline of the same grade will be the same.

Ethanol is added because it is contains oxygen, and can help create a more complete burn, reducing emissions. It replaced MTBE, which was the previous oxygenate additive. MTBE caused nasty things to happen when it got in people's ground water.

Ethanol also reduces the amount of gasoline we use by 10%, which in turn reduces our crude oil importation and refining requirements.

Always ask what's in their "ethanol-free" gas. It could well be something like 89-octane gas with a boatload of octane booster. Might be okay for their customers (off-road vehicles, boats and other engines w/o cats). But you can end-up damaging your catalytic converter and cylinder walls real quick.

Could you clarify that first sentence for us? Did you test the gasoline yourself with a tester?

Yes to everything else but as for that last part, actual reduction is more like 2/3. There's the bit worse fuel economy to consider.

I live in a small town here in TN, we only have two gas stations that do not put Ethanol in their gas, one even sells racing fuel! To answer your question, no I have not personally tested the gasoline. I noticed my "cricket" noise being unbearably loud on the way home from work this evening. I figured I would try putting Ethanol free gas in the FR-S. I was reading on break at work that quite a few people on the forum has had good luck with Ethanol free fuel solving their *cricket* noise problem. I can vouch that it has helped me.

yikes. If the government is careful we may see another dip in the economy. People have to buy gas to get to work. If it gets too out of hand they will do this instead of paying their bills. Family has to work in order to put food on the table.

Thanks for clarifying. I find it interesting that Gasohol would make it chirp when pure gas makes it stop. That's not a comforting sign to be sure. Chirps I can handle, it's the ancillary concerns that bother me.

I live in a smaller town than you but we've got 3 stations that sell pure gas. I'm still upset that the local E85 station closed down right before I moved here and now the nearest E85 pump is 20 miles away.

The government cannot affect gas prices the way you think they can...

Thanks for posting. Their app is easier. I really have to go out of my way to get to a gas station here in Miami.

This! my car is a idle dipping, chirping and pulsing mess with gas containing 10% Ethanol. Switching to ethanol-free gas eliminated all those symptoms.
I've experimented with to 10% ethanol gas, only to have those symptoms reappear after several miles of driving.
Same deal when going back to ethanol-free gas, all abnormal engine noise just seem to vanish after a few miles of driving.

Probably a fluke, several people ran pure gas only to have the chirps come back after awhile.

Weren't there recalls for the idle dip and chirps?

The canadian is a bit slow on updates and listing. Alberta says only CO-OP has ethanol free, but I know Super Store's 91, Hugh's 91 and All the Shell V-Power 91 are ethanol free.

Did you try adding them? Otherwise, it might just be that nobody posted them. Also, a couple of those are listed as "all stations" on the website, I don't know about the app:

Quote:
Alaska: all stations dispense ethanol-free gasoline.
Alberta, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec: all stations dispense ethanol-free premium.
British Columbia: Chevron 94
Ontario: Shell V-Power 91; Costco 91; Canadian Tire 91; Esso 91; Ultramar 91
