Definitely getting opti coat and clear bra. Toyotas and Subarus have notoriously cheap paint, and it's much more noticeable on the darker colors.

I know what you were saying man but 80 microns IS in fact lower than recommended. Having <90 microns sucks because all the rock chips he's getting now will need to be buffed out one day and when they day comes with an 80 micron panel it calls for some seriously tender buffing with microfiber specific pads like megs stuff... Short and simple, it's a BITCH to correct paint on cars with sub 90 microns.
edit; but yes you are correct that as long as the clear coat stands its own, and you constantly have wax/sealant/opticoat on you're paint will be fine... nobody would ever know the difference. It' only comes in effect when detailers have to buff the clearcoat down to blend in blemishes. |

The car could have been a re-coat in paint anything plastic is done in the plastics area or suppliers who work with Toyota. If the paint is too thick you can get crows feet after a couple of years of being in the sun. Thicker is not better. End result most owners don't get their cars measured for paint thickness. Managers make the call to send the cars thru paint again if needed. If you want to see if its a re-coat look closely at edges and look for clear coat drips.
