I have none of the problems you seem to have. car may flex in some area's but that's normal. my 2011 BMW does that too in some places. Only thing that bothers me with the BRZ is how much road/wing noise there is but hey the car weighs 2600lbs it's not going to be soundproofed like a bentley.

i don't know why some of you say it's 2600lbs. where did you get a 2600lbs brz? the official curb weight is almost 2800lbs.

Any seasoned car buyer knows automatically that a first year run on a new model of car is going to have its share of glitches. Knowing that many of us chose to bite the bullet and take the chance. I'm glad I did. My car was built in August and my experience tells me that a lot of the problems encountered since production first began were corrected by time my car was made. I have exactly zero warranty issues with my FR-S and I'm approaching 7,000 miles. Sure, there are a few design features I don't like but that is not a quality issue. If the features I'm a little disappointed in are corrected in 2014 I have a simple solution, I'll trade in my current car and get a new one. If they don't make the corrections I'd like to see I still have one hell of a neat little car that I enjoy.

Op needs to drive an S2000. Then he will appreciate the price he paid for similar build quality. Neither the 86 or the S2000 won multiple car of the year from several different publications for how many rattles they have; they got them because of innovation and driving experience. You can't have it all when cost is a constraint. If these imperfections bother you that much, this is the wrong car for you and you should have bought a similarly priced Mustang and stuck to your guns. Maybe the Mustang GT won't have things that blow away with a minor sneeze because it weighs a good 850lbs heavier than the 86.

I understand these are big words (I love this car - I really do), but this is nothing that I am used to. My previous cars were a '99 Ford Taurus, '00 Ford Mustang, and '05 Audi A4.

I noticed several issues and I hope you guys can put my mind at ease on this... The last thing I want to do is worry about the car falling apart on me. So, heres a list of issues ive discovered so far.

Rear reverse assembly - is this literally hanging in there? there is seemingly NOTHING holding it to the rear bumper on the bottom. I can fit my entire finger between the assembly and the "under-assembly" piece. This entire area is essentially hanging on the car. A "love tap" from another motorist will undoubtedly cause the assembly to fall out of the bumper.

Rear bumper - there are NO supports for this thing in the reverse light area. its a floppy piece of shit.

Side vents - it literally makes a SQUISHING sound I press on it. Is this normal??? My Mustang's side vents were held on with double sided tape, but this is nuts.

Windows trim - everything flexes when I push on it. How is this a standard of quality? Im not talking Audi quality here - I would be happy with Ford quality at this point.

Side mirror base - same thing with the window trim. flexes easily and not sturdy at all. a rock at any speed would cause this to shatter.

turn indicator housing in front bumper - feels like they are literally placed in there with no mounting. Any force at all causes these to flex and move like wet card board

weather stripping - every bit of it on the car feels like it would rip in half if i sneezed on it. the front hood area where it meets the front bumper is terrible.

mud flaps - feel like theyre barely held on. I know its a few screws, but really, they feel like they could rip off with ease.

steering column base - feels like everything else. an asthmatic blowing through a straw could send this thing flying.

Everything else doesnt seem too bad.... but its little bugs like this that annoy me. Im considering taking double sided tape to everything in hopes of "reinforcing" the exterior trim and steering column shroud. the rear bumper is a whole other issue...
I had a 2000 for Taurus..... Engine blew at 110 miles. Sold it and got a 98 and the engine blew at 90k. My buddy has a 2001 mustang GT and the engine needs new valves at 110k miles. Fords are ugly. Sorry bud but you can't compare a Mustang to a FRS. Go take some corners and be happy. As for you getting less tale it's sad if you need a car to get laid..... ahaha. :happy0180:

Stop biotching and go enjoy your car. Or sell it and go buy a mustang.

I just want to let you know that your posts are quickly becoming my morning entertainment.

In other news; plastic parts on low priced automobiles still feel flimsy!

(I must admit I was really surprised at how flimsy the rear bumper cover is, wet cardboard is an apt description)

this car probably wouldn't hold up very well at a destruction derby. I'll give you that. I was in a front end accident (front 1/4) and it held up fine. The fender was trashed but the bumper cover only needed paint. A few clips broke and they were replaced. All in all, it didn't fare any worse than any other low-riding car lacking big rubber/steel bumpers.

As for he fake fender vents, they are held on with a handful of clips and double-sided tape. I'm sure the clips are enough to keep them in place, but the tape is added security. I wouldn't expect these 4oz plastic pieces to be bolted on or anything.

That corner light is flimsy, but mine took an accident in that direct area ok. It needed to be polished and remounted.

But yeah, it's a cheep-feeling car all around. Generally to make cars this light they either have to feel pretty cheap or be made of exotic materials that bring the cost through the roof.

If you don't like it, sell it. There's plenty of people that will take the quality trade-off for the fun this car affords. As a previous owner of a number of BMWs, I can feel where corners have been cut here too...doesn't bother me in the slightest.

IMHO the S2000 was superior in build quality at just about every step of the process. The build quality of the Twins, for me, is closer to a $16,000 econobox. But hey, the damn thing is fun to drive.

And if you think about it we did pay a premium for some "driver enthusiast" toys like:

RWD
D4S
And what's proving to be a very robust engine/transmission/differential combination.

They had to cheapen out somewhere.
