Llloool

Yea. I keep telling him to get it tuned but he keeps giving me a stupid argument that an R8 or Ferrari would be better.

You gotta remember.. he's more of a "status" guy.

I think a GTR with a great stance has a nice swagger, but maybe that's just me

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would add to this. Been on youtube a bit and been thinking. If I had $115k to spend on a car, I would just buy a new '13 GTR if I needed a new car with warranty and all that. However a nicely used GTR for $70k with $45k of mods would be my ideal. AMS Alpha9 , Switzer P800 or the SP Engineering SPE900 would be nice. Talk about a car that could do 1/4mile in the 9s @146-148mph, 0-60 around 2.5-2.6 and still kill it at the track. I like the GTR hands down for this kind of money. If I need a car without all the electronics the GTR provides, I would just buy a Miata/S2000/FT86 on the side. Best of both worlds.

Class? Fast? Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG. 600+hp and 700+torque from V12 engine taking you and your CL in less than 4.5 sec. That's fast for a car of its size.

To each their own, but I'll pass on a $200,000 Mercedes C class. I'll take a Ferrari California if I have to spend $200k on ONE car. It has class, it's stupid fast, it's not ridiculously overweight and it doesn't have a fugly front end like the new MB's. 4800 pounds? Come on. The Bugatti Veyron has a 16-cylinder quad turbo engine and AWD and it only weighs 4500 pounds.

CL is based on S class, not C class. And, are you comparing a 2 million car to 200K car? Really?
CL and California is not in the same class because CL is not exotic. If you want something comparable(and better) to California in MB line, you get SLS AMG. It has better performance, and carry better brand prestige. Ferrari don't really scream "elegant" or "status" to me, MB do.

I'm comparing a car with a significantly larger powerplant and all wheel drive drivetrain to a car with a smaller powerplant and rear wheel drive. The MB is just stupidly overweight. (See all German cars including Porsche) I never compared performance numbers between the two, calm down.

You're right, the CL and California aren't in the same class. The CL is priced like an exotic, weighs as much as a full size SUV and doesn't perform anything like the California.

Ferrari's don't scream status or elegant, but MB's do? What? The only thing MB screams is upper middle class. When you see a Ferrari you turn your head, they're the ultimate status symbol tied with Lamborghini's and Maybach's.

I told you, if you want to compare California to any car in MB line, you should compare it with SLS AMG, which is cheaper and better than both CL and California.
Ferrari scream up-scale Fiat to me (Fiat 500 Abarth Ferrari). And Oh yeah, it originally is an Alfa.
Carmakers are going down market now. They are following the trend set by BMW and MB( maybe Lexus too). Look at 40K+ Aston Martin, 50K Porsche, Porsche SUV, Maserati SUV concept. Do Aston Martin, Porsche and Maserati lose their prestige for selling cheaper products? No.
To me, people pay for exotic cars for exclusivity and its performance image, not status. People pay for status car for comfort, luxury and badge( brand prestige).
Now let's compare to something more comparable to California. Which one is the real beauty performance car for its money?
This...

or this...

I was a fan of the CLS, my uncle owned a CLS550. The last generation of CLS sedans were sexy cars, even if they were a bitch for adults sitting in the backseat, the latest CLS with the new snout is just fugly.

When I look at a Ferrari, nothing about it resembles a Fiat. When you look at a Ferrari you know you're looking at ATLEAST a $200,000 car, that doesn't scream "I have arrived?" On the other side of the argument, when I see the new MB vehicles I think fugly Chrysler front ends and bland interiors. When I see a new MB, I'm not entirely sure if it's a $35,000 family car or an overpriced AMG variant of the same family car.

To each their own though. You take your SLS, I'll take my California, we both win. :happy0180:

He went out and bought a Black Edition 2012 GTR. Instead of getting the R8. Lol
