you guys need to call every toyota dealership in the country. I started looking for a high spec on 26 Nov and bought one 8 Dec. Had to drive 600Km there and back but it was worth it. Most toyota dealers make enough money selling Hilux's and Fortuners so have zero incentive to try and source an 86 for you.

Did you know every dealership can check stock availability at any Toyota dealer in the country? I found that they would rather let TSA lose a sale than send you to competing dealership.

Some dealerships are franchises, eg, I think the Protea Toyotas are seperate franchises so they don't necessarily know each other's stock.

Best you take out the yellow pages and start phoning all the Toyota dealerships starting from the ones closest to you. And don't be afraid to drive far out. The next shipment is only expected to come in April(That's if it arrives on time)

ps: Go for high spec. U won't regret it.

They can check across franchises via TSA's web. why its not open to the public I don't know.

If a client comes in they will check stock at dealerships close to them and try and try to get the car.
The cars on the floor belong to the dealership, not TSA (they have a floor loan at the bank and basically only pay the interests on the stock each month - so the longer a car is on the floor the more it loses in profit) . Dealerships get allocated a certain amount of each model per month by TSA and can only increase their allotted amount if they sell a certain number in a certain time frame.
So now if a customer comes in looking for an 86 they do not have they check stock at all close dealerships, but the competing dealership usually wants a trade ie two of your fortuners for one 86. If they can't strike a deal bad luck for the customer - they will rather lose the sale than send you to the competing dealership that actually has stock.

The whole system is geared to make it as difficult as possible for the customer. Most dealerships act like they are doing you a personal favour allowing you to purchase a vehicle - finding a dealership that actually want to do business is difficult.

I suggest calling the smaller / remote places like Delmas / Reitz etc looking for a cancelled order.

Damn true. I cancelled my original order just because of this and I wanted to show that dealership that I could find one on my own. People would expect that the dealer would treat you like a king, but they make you feel like an idiot. I have the same experience eveytime I go and buy a car. When I eventualy get the car I want from a dealer who treats me properly, I always go to the other dealer to show off my new car. Just to rub their noses in it.

I do this as well. Always funny to see the other dealer act all surprised and hurt that you dared pick up a phone yourself instead of relying on his crumbs of favour.
