When the ft-86 had no official specs, the possibilities were endless. These cars are in two different leagues. Though I'm still in the market for both of them, I will ultimately purchase the one of better value, not performance. |

I have to admit the G35 coupe was really the best of the cars than Nissan designed...the G37 is just too soft. People keep comparing the FT86 to the Z car...and the Z car is a two seater. They should be comparing it to the Genesis coupe and the G37 coupe. Or if nissan ever comes out with the next Silvia S15....Nissan has the engine..the 1.6 liter DI turbo...tweak that biotch to 225 HP and put it into a sexy RWD body...and make it weigh about 2700 or less....They could do it...but then sales of the 370Z would drop off like a rock... But there are two many models of the Z car. There only needs to be 3 370Z base and you can option it out to way you like 370Z Nismo 370Z roadster base and you can option it out to way you like Last edited by tripjammer; 11-01-2011 at 03:33 PM. |

The Z is a medium size, grand tourer/muscle car/sports car.
The FT-86 is specifically designed as a small sports car. It'd be much more comparable to a silvia if they still made them. You wouldn't compare a silvia so a Z, so I don't see why people would compare a FT-86 to a Z. |

Here is my 2 cents...Direct competitors to me would be any car with similar price, performance specs, weight (not so much weight though). No matter FR, FF, AWD.. so GTI, civic si, Gen coupe, rx8, miata, earlier models--dc2/5. not specifics of class. I'll even go out on a limb and say 90% of us wont even see the track except for the few times u say f it lets find a track and go have a lil fun and thats if a track is even near. We arent pros, just enthusiast, so the whole class thing is a bit deep for all this talk...all about the fun of things.

Depends on your priorities.
The FRS has 4 seats, is lighter, is cheaper, gets better MPG. It ought to handle as well as the Z (if not a bit better) while being more tossable. It might have a nicer shifter and better steering, rev more freely, and be more comfortable (i.e. not beat you up as a daily driver). 370z Advantages: It has more power everywhere (much more low-end), has more grip, and has a hatch. Last edited by Deslock; 11-11-2011 at 06:52 AM. Reason: forgot to mention grip as a Z advantage |

I would also compare it to the BMW compact series but that is Euro only. Those turbo 4 motors they share with the Mini have potential. ^This +1 should be stickied. |

Speaking of the S15, I think it's the closest comparison we have to he FT86... the only difference is the engine, output and turbo. Everything else is pretty much the same.
I always wanted an s15

what makes you think a $25-27k car is gonna have a better or at least equal handling as a $32-35k one? or more comfortable per say? the VQ engine is designed to be a high rev engine. just cuz the Z is heavier, it doesn't mean it can't rev more freely than a lighter FRS.
you pay for what you get. it's just simple as that. FRS should only be viewed as a RWD civis si or RSX Quote:

The 370z isn't as harsh as the 350z was, but it's still stiff. Because of the FT's lower weight, it might be more comfortable. I'm certainly not expecting it to be less comfortable. Whether or not the Z's engine revs freely has nothing to do with the vehicle's weight. |
