A couple of the comments on the video seem to say that's probably a bad idea. It's toxic to inhale since it's a silica, and if you jumped in the pool, you'd hit the bottom as if there's no water in it.

EDIT: After doing some looking around, it's not transparent. It's a bit cloudy in appearance. They're working on a transparent version, which would obviously be a bit more appropriate for external use. There's also claims that it doesn't take to abrasion very well. It's removed with standard detergents, but I'd think that's not an issue since you'd never need to wash the car anyway.

You realize that once cars have impervious surfaces that stay clean all the time, there will no longer be any real value attached to a clean car. For a clean and shiny car to look good, there must be lots of dirty cars around. That's why houses that don't need to be painted (pre-colored siding) have a lower value than houses that require it. Before wrinkle-free shirts, a freshly-ironed shirt really set you apart as a careful dresser. Now wrinkle free shirts are the lowest common denominator, and have no special value.

I don't know if I would want to dip my undercarriage in this stuff until they have a health and safety study. It may cure swamp-ass but side effects may not be worth it.

Except for the fact that getting your car coated in this is likely to run into the hundreds to thousands range in price, and would need to be done every couple years. Then, it's only going to be people with some money who can actually afford to do this to their car who care about the way it looks.

It's only really dangerous if you breathe it in or get it in your eyes while it's wet. Look at the safety data sheets.

As I said in some other post, once applied, touching it destroys the effect. It mats down the microfibers, and the exposed surface area goes way up. You'd need to apply it after every wash. Watch the video closely: they never touch the treated surface.

I laughed so hard. I don't think anyone else in this thread got it.

There are no microfibers in this stuff, it's a silica suspension for the top layer. I think it was in the application video, but what happens with repeated touching is that it dissolves in the oils from your hand, and each time you touch it, it'll have less and be pushed out to the sides from pressure. If mild pressure alone were the problem, you wouldn't be able to throw a handful of mud at it and have is slide off. High pressure water is a problem because this stuff isn't exactly very hard.

Why would you ever wash it? Just give it a quick rinse with the hose and drive at creep speeds for about 3 seconds, and there's not going to be any water or anything else left on it.

Personally, if it were clear, I'd do everything except the door handles. Dry those off with a towel when you give it a rinse, and it's good.
