make your own axleback?
as much as i love the companies that build stuff for our cars, ive never been one to spend $800 on some pipes that we can weld together at the shop for $200. i found that old firebirds and camaros have the single in dual out flow styling of our mufflers and magnaflow, flowmaster and such sell them as a universal. flowmaster has a poor flow design with lower cfm when compared so i wouldnt go with them personally. But magnaflow is straight thru and $100 for it. Add a few mandrel bends and tips and its surly less then whats out now. this idea is based off the the tests showing a muffler delete making more power then catbacks. correct me if this wrong but just sharing thoughts

I'd imagine you could definitely build one for less. Most dont have the resource or motivation to do so.. Its physically easier to throw $$ at it vs building from scratch.
I say go for it! Cant be worse than the factory muffler..

Just don't do anything "red-necked"..... please... Make sure it all lines up and is absolutely perfect....

You can get a catback Flowmaster for under $500 shipped. Is it worth the hassle of sourcing the parts and then having the pipes bent?

You can order mandrel bends.. If I had a chop saw and a welder I would have gone this route the day i picked up my car lol.

Honestly though, I'm not a fan of any of the systems that use the stock routing.. from what i have seen center in side outs make noticeably more power than side in side outs probably due to either fewer bends before the muffler or less internal muffler resistance.

I have an SRT catback currently, and I plan to modify it some to suite my preferences a bit more. Going to re-work the mounting some to get it to line up better and add another resonator or two to quiet some of the drone. Probably also going to get rid of the slip joints and convert it to v-bands.
Unfortunately my welding equipment was stolen a couple months ago... So, I need fix up that situation first. |

If you haven't heard the flowmaster on this car, it's probably in the bottom on the list of exhausts. Definitely up there in the worst sounding on this engine.
If you want a real TIG welded axleback, look at Nameless for $550. It is light, has an outstanding design and is built by an engineer, not a local exhaust shop fabricator. |

500 $ on a nameless catback or just 200$ for home built piping. Leaves me 300 $ for more upgrades.

a single would be lighter and way easier to fab but no way to cover the other hole. im kinda getting use to the quiet daily so i dont want to go as loud as a straight thru single.
