At a price. Math on my Weds with powdercoat puts me at more or less just below $$$ any Japanese forged wheel price point.

I always forget which of their lines are forged. I believe most if not all Volks are, some of the Gram Lights, I know the Advans aren't (hence why I've never bought a set).

I assume you mean that he was running the OEM Primacy three-season tires?

But, to be fair, he may not have known that these tires are unsuited for the winter and, especially, snow. Yes, it’s in the owner’s manual, but it seems very few people read that. And even if they did, the summer-only tires issue is not highlighted as it should be.

For years I have been critical of auto manufacturers and their dealers who have NEVER in my experience properly informed the buying public about the hazards of summer tires used in the winter. They put high-visibility hang tags in their new cars about inconsequential stuff, but the single most important thing they should be warning consumers about is the tire issue in the snowbelt states.

I’ve never seen any warnings at all, and no one has ever pointed out the hazards when we’ve shopped for new cars.

You know about it because you’re knowledgeable about cars and driving, but the average consumer is ignorant. Ignorance is not bliss. I’m surprised not to have read about consumers suing the dealer and manufacturers after a winter crash.

So, did you educate your friend, or try to? I could see him ignoring your good advice, disputing it, even.

It's only cheating if you get caught :p I mean your car is basically stock right? Might as well give it every little bit of help possible

Who knew, the flowmaster exhaust is only $500 for the FR-S...that's a much more manageable price point...with a catless resonated front pipe I bet it'd sound sick. Meh, monayyyyyyyy.

Yeah I told him, but in my eyes (especially when you have a snow storm coming) you should have winter snow tires-its common sense really. The fact that the car is rwd and low/light does not make it any better.
I felt bad, but at the same time he should know this considering he Is already modding it.
Cares more about lights and exhaust tips but has no idea what hes driving on..Im almost afraid now what grade of fuel hes putting in...
Lol I normally dont care about how people treat their cars, but when it shows up in my news feed and its a frs Im gonna be a little upset.

Sure, I agree. Now, if only common sense weren’t so UNcommon.

I love rear wheel drive, especially in the snow. It’s actually safer and easier to drive once you understand how things work and get a bit of practice. You can steer both ends of the car. It’s fun!

Have you ever driven rwd in the snow?

Yep, there’s widespread misunderstanding about that. A lot of people think it’s not a problem to run regular, that the cpu will simply dial back the ignition advance (retard the timing) to eliminate engine knock the way most modern cars do. They don’t understand that this does not work with a 12.5 to 1 compression ratio. The spontaneous combustion that can result from low octane fuel in the BRZ/FR-S can do serious damage to an engine, often melting piston tops.

So … did you have a talk with him about the fuel? And did he/will he believe you?

The reason I ask whether he listens to you is that, typically, the men dismiss the women in many domains, and I’m thinking that in the world of cars, the young men will dismiss the young women’s opinions. They won't take a "girl" seriously, possibly to their everlasting regret.

You don’t have an FR-S yet, right? Are you the young woman I saw posting some months ago about maybe buying an FR-S in February? It's been a while since I read that...
