Toyota and BMW just teamed up to make the next gen Supra slated for 2017.

I won't be surprised if joint-ventures become the norm in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Yaris phased out and this new vehicle take it's place in the line up or fit into Scion's lineup, possibly replacing an existing model like the xD.

I thought it was Toyota and ford... which I read in a USA Today column that Toyota and Ford has been taking about doing a joint venture. Its going to be a gas sipper from what the article was saying.

I'm all for companies coming out with better cars, but I would think toyota has the money to do this on their own. I can't imagine why they would split the cost of these cars and then one sells for a higher price point because its upgraded a little more. IE BRZ having better electronics so to speak than the FRS.

I do see why they didn't do dual zone air controls and all those other ADDITIONAL ADDED WEIGHT devices, the FRS was built to be a sports car and to stretch more out of the 2L boxer with only 200hp, they needed to shave weight. Saving on weight is cheaper than adding more power. I would assume.

That would be awesome! I don't understand why the Supra hasn't been a lasting option like the Fair Lady has been for Nissan.

I remember there were talks of bringing back the Datsun name brand in the Asian/European markets. Wouldn't be surprised if they came out with the next generation Silvia S16.

Is this what you were talking about?

Although it looks like it was more for hybrid powered pickups and SUVs.

Mazda needs the income, so partnering up makes sense for them. The benefit for TMC is they can contract production for a low volume car instead of having to buy and build a new plant. Building in Mexico gets around most of the import taxes and tariffs.
