Those are great numbers if you want NOTHING until 4500rpm. I like top end as much as the next guy but I refuse to loose driveability for it. How often are you really workin the car to redline? We're not driving on the track here. Having a good quick bottom end is what makes this car liveable on the street for the small amount of power it makes. Figure out a way to flatten that torque dip in the midrange and the FA would quickly outshine the competition.

Personally, I want a nice curve. I want it flat and broad as possible, come up early and last all the way through redline. Not that mountain peaky deal you have goin on there. That's fine for a track car but even then is hard to enter/exit a corner because you have to be in a lower gear making the car twitchy and upsetting its handling. And god forbid you have to merge quickly or need some grunt to change lanes unexpectedly.... sometimes there isn't time to downshift.

90% of us dont drive track cars. Most would be pretty unhappy with that torque response but would never actually say so in defense of their spending to get a "number" .. screw the numbers. I've seen it over and over for years. Yet, people keep doing it like lemmings jumping into a fire pit. All they concentrate on are peak numbers.. if you're rarely at peak they dont matter for squat.

If you cannot get the car off its ass starting in the lower midrange its going to be a dog on the street or a shorter track. Then you have to play with final drive gearing to get any response out of it and that's more money to spend .. blah blah.. never ending quest for what cannot be reached.

Some people love to wind the hell out of their cars on the street. That's fine if you like cops all over you and shitty fuel mileage. Yeah, that's what I really want in a daily driver.. loud, peaky.. useless unless I'm hammering it... a kids toy.

Its not impossible to have a nice broad 2500-7500rpm curve with good USEABLE response all the way through. Anyone with half a inch of experience and a minute of seat time will agree that makes the most FUN. It does not however yield the big numbers.. and that.. well.. if your peepee demands you have the big numbers then I guess that's what you'll spend for and you'll have that terrible bottom/lower midrange to show for it.

It has to be weighed.. is useable fun what you want or a otherwise slow peaky car with a nice dyno sheet? You cannot get both.

Here's an overlay of the K20 with I/RH/E/Kpro and my FA20 with I/E/ECUTek.

The K20 would just make our cars feel much slower on the low end. It only begins making more power at 6900 RPM. So I mean, if you want to stay above 6900 RPM, sure you'll be faster, but for the 95% of driving done below... not a chance. haha

Also, I'm pretty sure a full race header and tune on the FA20 would lift that falling torque quite a bit higher up in the rev range.
I honestly don't give a shit about 95% of my driving. I could be driving a corolla it wouldn't make a lick of difference. It's the 5% when I have a nice open onramp or I decide to take a trip up north or when I have a trackday that I really care about.

Let's try and make an honest comparison okay? This is your car (which is a freaky good car) on 93 over the k20 I posted earlier. It's just a matter of opinion. I'm not here to "win". I just prefer taking some of the low end torque and moving it up. This is most likely what our powerband would look like with high duration/lift cams and some valvetrain work. I think this would be a BLAST given how superior our chassis is to the civic. That's all. If you add headers and get torque to stay on up top, I'll be the first one to cheer man.

It does boil down to personal preference. I like to have fun all the time, not just here and there.

else I would be driving a corolla.

That's why I keep both which I didn't cry every nite. I was struggle for trade in or not because I don't have enough parking space. But I choose to keep the SI and I don't regard for it. I would say this K20 has own character.
Do I need toque? Hell yes and I change my bottom end to CRV K24 which trade of a bit redline to 7800rpm but ton of toque. I wish my FA20 has more high end and more rev happy. Again, I am sure there will be lot of solution in the future for our car.
There is no winning engine here and it more personal preference.

I am a Honda guy and I love my 08 FA5.
K20 is one of the best 4 cyl engine ever on the market. Very strong motor and tuner friendly. With little bolt on and it's already been life up the motor. I still remember the day I pick up my brz back home then I keep switch between my FA5 and BRZ for comparison. In conclusion, FA20 wasn't the engine I really in love. I am sure you will understand my point if you own the K20 now or before.

On the other hand, I am agree that our car still too new on the market and just give time to be mature. Do you remember how long was it take for hondata came out the Kpro for the civic SI? We was bitching that at 8th civic forum for years and years.

IMO, K20 on the SI which make it one of the best sporty FWD on the market but sport car. We have way better technology on the chassis and platform which make Honda envy.

I have my fate on our FA20 can be as strong and tuner friendly as K20.
engrish?

I've built torque monsters, and rev monsters. I vote for a rev monster. Less torque (down low), more revs (holding torque higher up). It should be said that I have built turbo engines though.
