It's no longer a Scion FRS. I don't like engine swaps, personally. There were photos of a Saab 9-3 with a viper engine in it. To me, that's dumb. It's no longer a Saab. The engine IS the heart of the car.

I get it, your friend had to get custom mounts and blah blah blah. But it's a Supra engine. Just buy the damn Supra. Might as well just drop a crate motor in there and be done with it.

I'd be fine with a BRZ Daytona Coupe.

If you can't build a car like this, please keep your elitist stock engine opinions to yourself. So tired of purists. Wake up, it's 2013, not 1960. We're going to do things the way we want. And to be frank, it's a formidable engine, respectable, and proven.

I can appreciate this swap because I used to own a 1989 Mazda RX7 Turbo II FC with a Nissan SR20DET. I can't even begin to talk about how much flak people were giving me for the car not being rotary, or why it didn't have a V8, or let alone the amount of dumb comments.

None of you would dare have those opinions if you took a ride in the car. Let me see you not grin or have a joy of happiness when the throttle is opened up. Respect the man's build and efforts he's put in. It's done right.

Props man, btw for real..do you have a full build out thread on the vehicle with some sort of explanation and reasoning for your process? I'm curious about your throttle position, saw there was a spring/hinge attached to the frame (or what it looked like), I guess to assist if it gets stuck open and ensure it closes?
Well said sir, thanks

When the FT86 came out, Orido (drift Japanese champ) swapped his engine with an ISF engine and everyone got excited! However, swapping an engine for street application seems a big "NO" for some reason

Not sure about the throttle btw, will check it tomorrow

And another I want to add, no matter what car you own or build, there will always be ppl who have different taste and opinion. As a wise man once said, drive what you like and wear what ppl like

This is funny to me. When people talk or bring up a race car some will argue that its no longer the production car anymore, even though they were still running the OEM motor. This thread is different in saying that the car is not the OEM car anymore because the motor is different.

I don't think it's a matter of anyone being upset. I think it's a matter of people being jaded because 2JZ and LS swaps have, can, and will be done just about everywhere they can. Sure it's awesome, and proven, and will make a boatload of power, but it's like a song on the radio. It doesn't matter if it's a classic, if they play it every fifteen minutes it loses its appeal.

The decline isn't the same because engine swaps will always be a valid way of making power, but stay with me on this one... Remember when the Toyota Altezza debuted in Japan with those crazy chrome tail lights? And then a few people imported the lights and had them custom fabbed into their cars? Yeah, that was pretty awesome at the time for the show scene. Then APC and other companies came along and started making direct replacement "Altezza-style" tail lights. It wasn't so bad at first because they were only made for a handful of cars. But soon you started seeing them everywhere, and they started making them for vehicles like the Dodge Caravan, and all of a sudden it's "look at those cheesy tail lights."

Having said that, LS swaps are heavenly to me. I'd love an RX8 with an LS under the hood.

I'm not sure if you missed the point or just can't think of anything better to say. Of note, many people dislike the tail lights as well.

Yeah...the difference being altezzas are purely a style item. Styles come and go. Making reliable power in cars hasn't changed in a while. Also, changing out a set of taillights is easy. Putting in the work to get a different motor in this car is not easy or cheap. It's not as "easy" as buying a crate motor, mount set, adapter harness and plugging everything in. Have some for those that put in the time and money to do the really crazy stuff like this.

But the thing is, eventually it is. If enough people want it there will be a kit with everything you need to cut down on the amount of fabrication. Whole new subframe, mounts, harnesses, etc..

That's not the point though. I'm just saying, people get bored with seeing the same stuff in anything and everything. It's not a new concept at all.

Some don't understand why others aren't as impressed with what was done. Those not as impressed get labeled as haters, have no respect, etc.. I tried to give those questioning an understanding of that frame of mind. God forbid anyone has a differing opinion. Everything has to be a "I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG OTHERWISE WE DECLARE INTERNET WAR ON ALL YOU HATERS" situation. Lighten up.

You are wrong. Someone spent alot of time and money on a completely bespoke setup that puts down sick numbers. That deserves respect.
