I'd rather another version that doesn't pass through the frame, and stops before it :-)
Then get one...don't think that it will be a TRUE cold air intake though, because every intake so far that stops before the frame sucks in hot air from the engine bay even if the nozzle is pointing into the gap over the radiator. @2forme has done testing that proves this.

The Perrin is a TRUE cold air intake, it sucks air from in front of the bumper BEFORE it gets to the radiator. While the Airaid, aFe, Injen and other similar designs all just pull air mainly from the engine bay. This ends up with warmer intake air temps.

So I really don't understand why people are coming into my review thread complaining about removing the front bumper. I've said from the VERY beginning that if you aren't comfortable with removing your bumper then this intake ISN'T for you. By all mean's get the aFe intake...it's a good intake that is easy to install...but don't expect the performance gains and response of a true cold air intake like the Perrin, FA20Club or VMS intake. It's apples to oranges, so I don't know why people are attempting to compare the two. They are for two different types of enthusiasts so get whichever one you prefer.

Quote:
"Let me preface that this install is FAR more involved than your average intake. If you're looking for something you can remove easily and return to stock within a short period this intake is not for you."

First sentence from my "The Installation" section in the first post of this thread.

Once you remove the bumper once, you understand it and it becomes easy. It's removing it for the first time. Actually, just removing the bumper to clean the filter is pretty easy once it is installed. 10 plastic clips in the fenders, 6 under the bumper and two silver screws, with two plastic clips on the top and 5 bolts. Might take me about 10 minutes now that I know. I love working on my car, so I have no issue with it. The Perrin is probably the best designed/looking CAI currently and I love mine.

The hardest part I had of the install was getting the filter to stay on. It sits a bit funny on the tube and you have to carefully tighten it.

Nice gains on that dyno with it.

Getting the bumper reseated on my car is a massive headache. Even after several attempts by experience body work guys it doesn't sit quite right on one corner. It is very easy to run into problems when you start playing with soft plastic parts that need to line up just right with metal parts.

It just snaps back in right where it went. You start from one side carefully and move to the other. The worst part is messing with the stupid plastic clips which is an entire reason why I'll be buying push pin pliers. It's easy to damage the clips since they bend easy. Had no issues lining up the screw holes for the two silver bolts on the bottom. It's all worth it once you see how awesome this intake looks, sounds, and the way it drives.

My temperature testing has shown that the AFE is also a cold air intake. I will do testing on Sony's car as soon as the weather permits then post a comparison graph showing temperature delta.

@Sony

Good review and pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Fyi, your name and address can be seen in the first picture. Could be a privacy concern.

Yeah, but even after gmookher, I still like my perrin products

and I'm looking forward to this intake as well with the hose inlet combination because I like the idea of a true cold air (after the whole airaid incident).

And to anybody uneasy about removing the bumper, It's very simple and only takes me 5 minutes give or take. it's only a few bolts and clips

@Sony sorry to bring in another intake question but how would you think the vigilant CAI would compete? both have somewhat the same design.

did you say the perrin intake was aluminum? concerns with "heat soak" I don't really care because i bet it sounds better than a plastic body

It is coated aluminum. Looks and feels pretty resistant.

Yeah, I'll see how well it performs here when it's 100+ in the summer. The tube heating up I'm not so worried about. The filter pulling the air not sitting under the hood is what I was more concerned about.

Let me know when you get those results for the temperature testing!

No problem. The coolest (read, while driving with plenty of air flowing) the AIRAID got was 15 degrees above ambient. AFE managed 8 or so. I'd imagine this would be in the ballpark of 6-7. Like I said, just gotta wait for the weather to clear up.
