Just installed and it looks great! Did it solo so a little tricky switching heads on my ratchet and holding up the hood but the mission was a success. I did notice a little something that is itching at me... Right at the end when my hood is raising there is a little granular sound and the two struts finish at slightly different times. Not a big deal to me as long as this isn't something harmful but just something I noticed. Also took a little paint off the 10mm bolts when unscrewing but luckily I had some touch up paint.

The last inch of travel in the struts is "damped" to slow the travel of the hood down as it reaches its maximum height, which leads to the sound that a few people are hearing, its perfectly normal. The unfortunate side effect is that they will finish at slightly different times, but it is still better than the hood slamming up. So, good eye, and nothing to worry about, its perfectly normal.

Orbital, Matt pretty much nailed it. In fact, one of my first designs (I prototyped 5 different designs) was nearly identical to the Syms kit. But I opted against it because I could not fit a long enough strut into the area to be able to raise the hood up to a high enough level, and I really didn't like how in the way they were if you wanted to work on something like your battery or master cylinder. I eventually picked the design we have today for a number of reasons, but mainly because they were out of the way (functional), raised the hood up about 20 more degrees (functional), and being able to use longer travel struts gives a more linear spring rate that exerts less force on the ground points and leads to the "two finger operation" and "drop to close" criteria that we really wanted to hit (functional). A completely functional dress up part!

Thank you so much everyone, we love hearing the feedback and seeing the installed pictures, so keep em coming!

Got these installed this afternoon and I love them!

Installation was easy, action of dampers is buttery smooth and once installed, they look like they are supposed to be there.

Only suggestion I would make is to include the 10 mm bolt for the fender bracket in the kit. Not a big deal on my car since it's Raven, but on a different colored car, the painted bolt stands out too much against the black bracket.

Only other thing I'll say is that Toyota should buy a container full of these kits and start including them on the cars from the factory!

Great job by the Grimmspeed crew, this kit makes me happy I waited til these came along and got in on this groupbuy. I'll be watching for more great products from Grimmspeed in the future!

Did any of your guys and girls have a problem with the black bolts screwing in? Is it because I have the wrong angle? I will try again today....

Yeah I tried that. I did not want to break anything...I guess if the raise the hood up to a straight level the black bolts will probably thread in smoothly? I could get the old bolts back in...but those black bolts are a biotch.
