Do you track your car with an oil cooler?

I dont have one yet, im waiting on perrin or somebody to release something good and affordable. i really dont feel like paying $1000 Plus for an oil cooler just because it says HKS or Greddy. Its winter now so i should be good but once its starts to warm up im going to need one asap since im in texas, i might have my sponsoring shop JMS custom build me one though.

pcasso, do you have the ability to log oil temps? If so, what kind of temps are you getting?

I'm super paranoid about this because I tend to push hard and live in a desert BUT I'm getting real sick of sitting back on the sidelines and reading about/watching folks track their cars as-is (with no documented issues so far) instead of actually doing it myself. MAJoR itch here.

The best verdict I can come up with after having trolled through all the treads is that a cooler is tood to have but not mandatory.

So I'm probably going to just track without an oil cooler and install one later on before the summer hits.

The near $1k prices for the Greedy and HKS kits are ridiculous too IMO. Waiting for more options

Edit: and that's sidestepping he whole 'which oil' question as well, which there's also no consensus on. So it'll be Stock oil + any problems = warranty claim.

I took mine to the track without one on a 80 F day. I've yet to see anyone show that the oil really gets too hot. In the other thread where this comes up there is a graph, but they stopped for safety before it got too hot for synthetic oil (Mobile 1 says it is good to 260 C, and they stop way before 200 C, and the temp starts to level off).

Yes an oil cooler will keep the oil temp down, I'm just not sure it is actually necessary without a turbo or something like that.

You could probably have a shop build one pretty cheap.

Summit Racing has cooler cores for <$100
oil cooler plate(thread specific I think its M20x1.5) $40
Aluminium L stock to turn into mounting brackets
oil lines and fittings

Seems like you could have a shop put it together for around $300
