A bunch of cops who hide and try to catch speeders don't keep the radar on. They just point it at the car and hit the trigger. So by the time your detector goes off, you may already be nabbed - unless the cop was clocking the guy in front of you.

very true! only chance you have is if the cars in front get "sampled" then if ya have a v1
it will pick that up as a quick indication along with a very soft beep, but ya gotta be payin' attention, and react immediately,or you are f**ked!

Been using them since the late 70s. When I was really in a hurry I also included a CB. Have not had a ticket since then and I have had some massive speeding episodes. Did get pulled over once for speeding, but it was in a company minivan without a detector...got a warning.

Can they be useless? Absolutely! Kind of like can you get hit by lightning.

These days, if you're going to go through the trouble of using a radar detector, spend more for high quality and GPS.

I bought an Escort Passport 9500ix a year ago (along with the suction cup mount and direct wire). I like that it remembers where the false alarms are.

Having written that, I haven't gotten around to installing it, and only bother with it on long trips. I may end up selling it since I don't drive as fast as I used to, and it's annoying to have to put it away when I park the car (20 years ago someone broke a $350 window in my CRX to steal a POS $40 radar detector, so I don't leave them out).

Took some shots of my Beltronics STi-R Plus' controls and display mount for another user. Thought some of you might find them helpful as well.

I like that! I wonder if they can do it with the JDM frameless mirror...

It's worth a shot. Hit up radar-mirror.com. I mailed mine in to them and had it back within a week.

Is the cigarette lighter cord long enough to reach the mirror? How annoying is the setup? Might be a deal breaker if it doesn't work well with the car's design.

Are you talking about splicing it into the Homelink mirror cables? I did something a bit different actually. I bought a longer straight cord and put the cable through the front of the headliner, down the A pillar and into the cigarette lighter in the glove box. It took about 5 minutes to do and looks nice because the wire doesn't show. I'm at work now, but can take a picture of how I did it and post it on here tomorrow if you want. Here's the cable I bought

Yea...I meant to ask if there was a clean way to get the cord from the center console to the front window. I guess you found it, as well as this other guy that made a video.

How far down do you let the cord hang from the front headliner?

You can either splice a short cable (you can buy it from Escort's site) into the Homelink mirror if you have it, or do what I did. I didn't leave any slack at all from my radar detector to the headliner. Actually a little trick to keep it from falling out of the headliner is put a zip-tie tightly around the cord and cut the end off. Then that that piece of plastic will prevent the cord from falling out. I'll take a picture of mine tomorrow and post it here.

You know there's a 12v plug in the glovebox, right?

Whoops, nevermind, Calin mentioned it already.
