TBH, I'm a bit worried now. I reckon that spec sheet was a sales training sheet, and if Toyota think that it's main competition is going to be the MX5, RX8 and CR-Z then we're looking at around a 50k min. Cheapest MX5 is around 48k, RX8 is around 60k, and CR-Z doesn't have a price yet but I reckon it'll be late 40's (given that it's a "sport" hybrid).

I have to say, if it comes out more than 40k then there's no way I'll be shelling out for it. I've followed this for 3 years but 40k is too much. I'd wait for the price to come down or I'd just pay an extra few grand for a WRX (as bad as that sounds).

direct competitor would be MX5. Mazda sets crazy markup becos of the lack of competition and convertible is usually more expensive.

i think they throw the RX8 in there as a brenchmark.

however i wouldn't be surprised if they priced it like a FN2R tho. if Toyota is smart, they should bring a base model for $35k + orc and a higher model for $40k + orc.

You'd be better off buying a 400hp Liberty.

;-)

Same here except I'll just buy a bike and keep my current car for a bit longer.

Considering a top of the range Aurion is about $45000, I'm hoping the the base model will be around ~34k and the high spec about ~38k. Hoping

Although I know this is completely chalk and cheese, an SS Commodore is under 40k these days... WRX is around 44k...

Base model for around $34-35k and top model for $36-$38k would be reasonable. I don't think the top model has that much in it to command too much of a premium on the base, going on the JDM model specs. Of course if they manage to get the base model down to around $32k I'd be very happy. Considering a Rukus is a low volume import that Toyota sells, has a 2.4L donk, and has a pretty nice interior, and has a top figure of $32k, this is a real possibility to me. IMHO they're going to sell a lot more FT86's than Rukii if they can keep that price down.

While technically they are, but when you look at the demographic of Australia that look at 'sporty' cars they will see '$40k' 200hp and go well hell I can get a V8 for less, V8's are awesome, 'sporty' and my neighbour has one.

im still hoping that the price stays in the low 30s (read LOW 30s) for the base and high 30s (read not top of the 30s) for the top, cus im willing to pay 32-38 for this car on road, not 40-45.. i know it seems like splitting hairs there, but 38 is my cutoff. it has been since day one :p
in the end i can still import

We are going to get rolled in Price.

I can see this costing more then a GTI for it if you add any TRD parts :s

Slide,

Dealerships will have no idea how much these things will cost at this point.

That won't stop them from taking a deposit. They'd take a deposit on a space shuttle if you were willing to put one down.

I have to agree with coyote... I don't think dealers have any idea yet, not 6 months out from launch. I've said it before; I was told by Toyota at the motor show this year that it'll be mid 30's for the base...

I'd say that that dealer there was told too that it'll start in the 30's, so they've gone "well if we say $39,990 we're not going to get caught out, and we get monies now and tie them to buying from us and not another dealership who'll do a better deal".

Not saying I'm definitely right, just until I hear something actually from Toyota I'd prefer my own deductions.

You're right though Slide, I think there is a real good chance we'll get shafted. My bank account would love this to be the case, but it'll make me pretty devo for quite a while!

Will be interesting to see what options will be available to us here.
TRD Australia kind of fell in a heap, will we see any of the TRD upgrades as options?
How much will these options add to the price?
I've seen a few things that would be nice, might be hard to not add some of the options to keep the price down.
