Sorry, do you have pictures to elaborate on this? I am a bit confused. Not experienced with oil cooler setups. I do want to have oil temp/pressure gauges though.

Hopefully I'll have time to install stuff tomorrow

Ok ran into some issues.. so the stock airbox is in the way of two straight connectors on the Mocal adapter, you can turn it a bit but then the thermostat is MAYBE 1/16" away from a high pressure fuel line (assuming that's what it is). So, I'm going to replace the intake with an FA20CLUB CAI and try again.... thursday when it comes in. The 16 row cooler is also a bit big and has to be mounted way back. Going to wrap the SS lines in rubber hose to protect them also.

Also need to figure out where to install the Defi brain and get power/ign/illum from. Honda made that so easy by providing a port for a quick disconnect right in the fuse box for all of those.

The filter sits super high (hopefully will stay clear of the hood, looks like 1/2" before hitting that pad when the hood is closed) with all three plates installed. I wish Mocal made a half height spacer.

On the plus side, since my car is sitting on a buddies lift with no bumper, I'm driving his Boss 302 Laguna Seca this week

Can you post pictures of what you're describing? I understand everything you said but pictures will help a lot of people.

Will do.. didn't take any of the cooler location (haven't mounted it yet) and I meant "mounted way back" not "fan back" lol.

I'll post pics of the sandwich plate stuff though, need to get them off my phone and resize.

Cooler sandwich plate clearance.. I have a 45 on there as an attempt.. a 90 would work probably but create a less than ideal hose routing and additional hose length.

Clearance to the metal "fuel line" (in quotes because I think that's what it is) when the sandwich plate is positioned to clear both the oil fill and stock airbox.

And the stack of sandwich plates. 1" Mocal spacer, 1" Mocal oil cooler sandwich plate and 1" glowshift sandwich plate with defi oil temp and oil pressure sensors.

Nice clean install how long did the hoses end up being?
The clearance issues go away with the no thermostat plate for the L2L solution, and mocal can supply it tapped for pressure and temp...(I like taking temp off the sump and pressure off the main gallery myself.....

Didn't finish the hoses yet, wanted to get the sandwich plate in it's final spot first.

If Mocal can supply it tapped I might need to call them and see if I can switch. I'd love to avoid the third plate.

I've seen massive variances in temps before between the pan, gallery and filter location before. IMO Gallery is most accurate for both temp and pressure. Pan is easy, but airflow can cool it a fair amount also, but maybe not on our cars with the pan under it.... Filter sandwich plate is just easy.

I planned on using it until I determine a better location. There are the spots underneath that the stock sensors use that might be worthwhile with an extension hose for pressure, the temp sender is light enough to use a T directly probably.

With the cooler I kinda like the plate for pressure. If the cooler (or more likely, a hose) fails and you lose pressure that'll be the earliest possible indicator..

Why don't you use this location?

I don't know what that connects to. End of the main gallery? I don't know these fancy subarus.

The OEM pressure location is on the drivers side head in the gallery, which is probably a good location for both temp and pressure. The filter location provides early warning of a cooler failure, the gallery in the head provides accurate max temps and pressure that heads are seeing.

What's normally in that spot? Freeze plug? Threaded plug? I really don't want the third plate to be perm, it was more of a quick solution until people figured out better locations.

IMO the best and most accurate spots will always be the oil gallery in the head(s). The quickest notification of a cooler/hose failure will be at the filter sandwich plate, the most accurate pre-cooler temp is the pan but I don't care about pre-cooler temp as much as just before it gets back to the pan temp which the gallery will provide.

I haven't gone into the car to check it, but judging from the pic below, seems threaded plug. I also believe it is at the end of the galleries but not 100% sure.

Who used that location? Checked the FSM, doesn't say if it's oil or coolant even, just calls it a "tight plug".
