Proper funeral costs more than a set of decent tires.

On a 2WD car, it is necessary to get proper winter tires if/when your average temperatures are at or below freezing.

I'm not sure of the exact temperatures since it can vary with different models of tires. It can also varie by manufacturer too.

I personally don't need winter tires since it doesn't get cold enough here to require them over all seasons. But with that said, I always put them on regardless. Winter tires are less of an expense than the toll of having to live with the fact that you maybe injured or killed somebody in an accident due to trying to save a few bucks.
Not arguing any of these points. Only saying that a tire described as "all season" is designed to run in all seasons...not exclusive of winter. I'm well versed in summer v winter tire usage (and, in fact, use them both on almost all of my cars).

I never understood the cost argument against winter tires. While you use them, your other set of tires doesn't wear. While it might cost a few bucks at the end of it all, you really don't spend all that much more by swapping to a set of winters. Heck, if you have really good summer tires, you might even save some money.

The BRZ did just fine friday evening at 6:30 heading up a decent, unplowed hill in the snow. Blizzak LM-60s in stock sizes on stock wheels (the "performance" snow tires from Bridgestone). Even when it doesn't snow, it can get pretty cold. Much better driving on winter rubber than rock hard, zero grip summer tires.

To each their own. I don't think any of us have an aversion to saving money. But with that said, I think there's definitely some places where it should be spent. I don't see any point in buying a $30,000 car if you can't spend a fraction more to keep it out of the ditch.

I unfortunately don't have the luxury to choose not to drive when the weather is bad so I went with (what I thought was) the safer route. I see we're not going to agree here though so... I'll drop it. Safe driving to everybody whether or not they are using winter tires or all-seasons.

I just hope nobody is driving their summers in sub-zero temperatures. Or sub-32F temperatures for you silly Americans... Just kidding!

I called and asked if my road side assistance covered rides home... They said as long as there isn't a tow ban then regardless of the situation if I don't want to drive home from somewhere for any reason I can call for a tow and a flatbed will be sent to me to take me and my car home XD! Best 8$ a month I spend

If you are swapping in winter tires for summer ones, you should definitely not wait until it's freezing out, summer tires will be too brittle even just above freezing to provide decent grip - it should be done when the driving temps start to dip below about 45F.

Try and find an expert that recommends all-seasons for winter as far North as Ohio.

I feel your pain, I'm in MI now, and winter here is probably better than in NJ, but nothing compared to MN.
Just yesterday night we got good two inches, and I had to go out enjoy it right then, cause today it's 36, fog and rain, and it's gonna be in the 60s tomorrow.
WTF?

BRZ in Snow

I've read about a million of these posts. Each one followed by a post saying to get a good set of winter tires. This makes sense. But...

What should you do if you only get snow 3 or 4 times a year for a day but roads are clear the next day? It seems like a waste to get winter tires for 4 days of driving your car.

Is there any alternative? Any suggestions? Driving style changes?

Thanks guys

yes, there are about a million of these posts. yours just made the total count to be a million and one.

now to answer your question, winter tires is more dependent on the temperature, not just snow. if where you live is really cold then you need winter tires cause your summer tires will turn into circular bricks.
