Seriously, it's simple ... but I wouldn't even bother trying with the BRZ.

Just rip the FA out and put an EJ in.
Simple enough.

I disagree on the FA though. Sure a closed deck EJ would be stouter but you are giving up the best thing that has happened to ICE in 20 years. Direct injection. Something that is made even better with Ethanol!

But good luck to you!

Do you get the idea Tranz?

I'm not convinced that all of the resources that go into ethanol make it better for the environment or that it is sustainable if implemented on a larger scale than what it is at now. I wouldn't mind if they made it an additional option, but there are other things I would rather spend the money on.

Does any other maker use E85 while having DI? I thought there is an issue with the two, ala BMW N54.

Ford does. They've been testing with the Ecoboost engines, too.

How can you say that? What has our Petrol dependence done to "improve" the environment? The big reason why a terribly inefficient and polluting feedstock like corn is better is because our current fuel source is so terrible! With Ethanol we can use multiple sources and it can be mixed without a reduction in quality as water% is the baseline for quality. Cars don't car if it's corn ethanol or sugarcane ethanol, it's all the same!(pun intended)

If anything the fact that we import 2/3 of our Oil and even some Gasoline should be reason enough to be pushing energy efficiency and alternative fuels for cars/trucks! We hit our peak Oil years ago! We can't compete with foreign countries for Oil cost per barrel and it took $100 a barrel Oil and $3 a gallon Gasoline to even encourage Oil production/refining in the US again.

Farming energy is one of the few things that can improve the environment and it can be sustainable, our current techniques need improvement but there are plenty of ways to improve upon it. Oil Drilling/Refining is very dirty, polluting, and requires large amounts of energy and it doesn't even return more energy than it makes! Petrol is better than coal in most regards. It's not better than Natural gas for being clean or efficient but it is easier to use in cars and trucks than Methane(Natural Gas).

Ford hasn't released a DI FFV yet has it? The Focus is supposed to become an FFV soon. The Ecoboost engines are all Gasoline only now.
The Buick Regal is a DI turbo and it is the first FFV that does both. At least in the US, I don't keep up with Europe/Brazil FFVs anymore, it just irritates me...

If you guys need some Ethanol motivation. Read this Ethanol Study. They used DI with everything from Regular Gasoline to 91 Premium and E50 and E85.

They used the Ecotec so the borexstroke is the same as the FA20.

I think when taking the evaporative cooling effect into account, the true "octane" of ethanol is probably even higher.

Imagine the Toyota Atkinson cycle engines with 13.0? compression ratio, late intake valve closure, but on an ethanol blend...they could bump CR up to like 17:1 for a maximum possible pressure ratio and close to 100% gas expansion :O Can anyone say goodbye diesel?

Actually, I was inking of a turbo. But that would be cool too.
