20/30 would be from the 90s...
Manufacturers now are going to push fuel efficiency in whatever way they can. With JUST gearing/transmission changes they should be able to get halfway to the 2016 targets, because highway mpg can be improved like 30% in some cases in cars with small engines but high revs, short gears, like the S2000. 2L and barely 30mpg? what a joke. It should be able to do only a tiny bit worse than your typical Civic. I wouldn't be surprised if this car came out 30 combined. Then again, EPA test cycle gives some pretty odd numbers, so can't really say for sure, but Toyota seems good at playing this numbers game. 2500rpm at 60 is a tad shorter gearing than typical economy car when considering percentage of available torque used. So I think 35mpg highway on the EPA test is totally possible (it includes braking, and other crap), and typical cruising you can see 40. City is a bit iffy, this car has low curb weight though which helps. Maybe a bit worse than a Civic/Corolla. Oh yea @Allch Chcar you were saying something about C_d? I think this car is probably low drag, considering how Toyota is pretty obsessed with C_d. I wouldn't worry too much about the windshield, the shape of the rear is more important for determining drag I think. The back slopes down very gently, and there is this nice big diffuser and smooth underbody (most likely) to reduce the wake. Also the frontal area seems tiny, so it should have pretty low drag. german curb weight should be around 40kg more, so the car is 50kg lighter than S2K - thats okay for me

Have the interior dimensions (headroom, legroom, cargo) been mentioned anywhere or on the specs sheet?
My biggest concern isnt the price, but whether or not I will fit in it comfortably. |

My fuel economy benchmark is the BMW 528i. It's big, heavy (3800lbs), and powerful (240hp, 260lb-ft). EPA: 22/32.
In my book, a 2700lbs sporty coupe has to do at least that well. |

What the heck are steel door inserts? Are they a protection item? If so, I think they should come standard on all models.
I am liking the numbers so far! |

I'd guess metal trim pieces on the interior door panels.

Those are required by law in the US and they will be in every version sold. Maybe not in Japan though?
