Audio less is how they sell cars in Japan usually. they will pick whatever sat-nav etc as option.

Bam! My questimation on the torque was spot on!

These spec's look absolutely perfect! Sub 2700lbs with a high-rev, peppy engine? Not to jump the gun (haven't test driven, obbvviouussly) but it looks like I'll be buying one come next year.

All the reviews (shown in other threads) are exactly what a hachi enthusiast would want to see from this car. The AE86 didn't (and wont) get you around circuits faster than other cars, or get that hot blonde to finally date you, etc. But it will put a big ass smile on your face...its what mine always did for me. It's just a -fun- car to drive, through and through, and it is why (amongst other pros) such a modest car has fostered a massive following.

I foresee good things for the FR-S and BRZ.

Okay I'm going to address the elephant in the room here.

The quoted JDM weight for the Miata and RX-8 are both about 30-50 pounds lighter than the US weights. The quoted weight for the CR-Z is 150 pounds (!) lighter than the US weight.

How much weight will the FR-S gain crossing the Pacific?

Might want to check out the differences in measuring Curb weight first? Might be dry vs wet. Or even excluding components like batteries...

In the US, curbweight is all fluids and a full tank of gasoline. I couldn't find one for Japan though...possibly half a tank vs full.

Combined? So highway is probably higher?

I estimated 30% torque requirement at 60mph, so it'll be okay cruising, but not particularly great. They could've made 6th a bit longer to squeeze out an extra 20% gas mileage on the highway probably...

Highway.

I wouldn't expect much more than 20/30 with this car. I'd be happy if it were more, disappointed if it were less.

I think both weights are curb. The difference between a dry versus a filled gas tank is 80-100 pounds. That's more than the difference quoted for the Mazdas. It wouldn't make sense to weigh a car with fuel, but without oil or coolant. Fuel is the last weight added. 30-50 pounds is more consistent with differences in bumper and required equipment.

The CR-Z's difference is shocking however. That car doesn't do well in US crash tests; I wonder if it was engineered a bit on the low side of modern crashworthiness (which is still very good), and then beefed up to meet US regulations.

Wait until they run it on the EPA cycle first. The Japan 10-15 is at a much lower speed than ours so the score is higher.

Curb weights can be different. 50lbs could account for half a tank in an RX-8, the fluids are in for all countries since the engine is used to move cars during shipment. In Germany they add a passenger with luggage but 90% fuel. US full tank. And I believe Japan uses a half tank, dunno for sure.
