ok so we now all know the true point of friction in this whole process. a couple hours at a ca dmv really kills the joy of shipping from out of state for a huge deal.

No, it doesn't kill it for me but just so everyone knows what to expect. And it may be different for others. I did not hear about this from the other owners so I thought I lay out my experience.

Besides I'm usually pressed for time while others may have schedules to allow for calls and DMV visits. I've recently been frequenting DMV because of my son's driving permit/tests and my BRZ so it's not an unbiased comment.

Guys, as discussed before, this buying out of state thing is not going to be hassle free. All in all, I would rather go through some of these troubles instead of paying $3 or $$4k over MSRP -and get my car sooner.

Many of you mention that out of state dealerships are offering below MSRP, could any of you PM me or post what offers you've been given? I've been calling around (Reno & Colorado) and the best offer I've received is $500 below MSRP. Just want to see if that's what most of you out of state buyers are receiving.

Wow is right.

My m3 might be selling this week, which means I have to be ready to find a brz soon. I made a spreadsheet last night with dealers in LA/SD, SF, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. I also added some out of state ones for shipping. That dealership in FL still looks pretty good, but shipping from CO is cheaper.

I was surprised to find horrible markup at some of the SoCal dealers. You know who they are, and they were posting the, up for $34k.

I wish I had time to do this. Anything worth seeing on the drive home? I figured by the time you're back, the 1000 mi break in would've been satisfied.

Whoah, speadsheet, nerd alert... LOL, totaly kidding, I did the same thing so I could keep track of what prices I was getting and from who.... I found most SoCal dealers were at least willing to take MSRP, a select few would not.
