Did my 15000km service today. Told the service advisor to ensure that the correct spares where available. Even that didn't help as the filter and oil had to be ordered on an emergency. Technician commented that it took more oil than was indicated ... Basically 6l. Also found it very strange that the oil filter was replaced with another Subaru branded unit. Went into the workshop to find the spare just to ensure it was actually replace. My coolant was topped up about 2300km ago with the pink toyota coolant. According to technician that is acceptable and approved by Toyota... Don't quite believe that but what option do we have. No problems experience so probably ok. I noted that the technician also struggled to fit the air filter after cleaning it as was commented elsewhere on the forum previously. Technically one should never blow a filter with air as it can get damaged.

I fear the only Toyota items on these cars are the badges, D-4S injection and the radio!

Recommendation - find a express Toyota dealership, book for early oil change. This enables drive in and change within 30 min, get charged for 30min labour.
2 days before you go in call the parts, order the 7 bottles of 5w30 and a TRD oil filter, to ensure in stock on your arrival. 7th bottle plus left over of the 6th if any is your top up oil.
TRD filter is around R100 more if I stand to be corrected.
I also stood and watched, to ensure the mechanic knew what he was doing.

In most cases the dealerships are geared up as there are enough 86's in the country now...

The manual gearbox is also a Lexus box. Well technically made by Aisin, who are owned by Toyota in any case.

Agree that the speakers are bad.

interesting read! so from that it appears that the manual gearbox would not be suited to run with too much torque so turbo or supercharger is not a great idea... interesting...

I think they would have designed it to handle a turbo or Supercharger with a decent increase in power, since this is a tuners car after all.

However in Japan you get crazy people pumping their Skylines and Supras up to 1000 HP - that would seem to be a bad idea here

Also keep in mind that this car was built to a price as well. In my opinion too much power in this tail-happy car will eventually get you killed.

Picked up my 86 on Thursday.

Is it recommended to do an oil change after the 1st 1000km?

Welcome. There is no need to change your oil until first service 15000km, unless you opt to change due to the SA specification 5w30.
If you require top up during this period, then ensure you use 0w20 synthetic as this is the oil in from production. So we believe....
Run in period is 1600km.
Enjoy.
