Gonna "void" the warranty within the first year for sure. But I'd only take the car to a dealership that doesn't care about mods anyways.

If it's a 3yr /36,000m warranty then I'll take a 3 year loan. For that first 3 years I'll probably get an intake and maybe an exhaust if I can find a good quite one. Other than that all extra money will go into paying the loan off faster. After that I'll consider doing an engine swap, but I'll probably just go low boost on a s/c.

I think I will keep my warranty because I doubt bolt on mods would make a difference in performance I can feel. I would instead rip out the back seats, maybe the tire also and add 17'' lightweight wheels, a 1 inch drop and a sharp lip spoiler.

I don't care for my warranty. Cars are designed to last 100+k miles. Why wait till warranty is over to have fun. You wait till after warranty has expired, and now you do stuff to an already worn out car.

A) With a first year production run I would be more concerned about mechanical issues than a last year production run. Personally I will probably wait and get the car in its 2nd year. But the warranty would be a great thing to have to cover anything that comes up in the first few years.

B) If one decides to get this car as soon as it comes out, it will take some time for the marketplace to build up parts for the car. Not sure I would want to buy the first exhaust from company X or turbo kit from company Y. I would rather wait for the market to get saturated so I can see my options and have competition lower prices and have better quality items.

^ i figured 10k would be an acceptable limit to at least enjoy the car for a bit before turning it into a time capsule. Unless you plan on buying two...then buy one to enjoy..and store one soon as it leaves the dealership.

True. Or just drive it 300-500 miles a year for 20-25 years?

How does one get any value from a warranty on a vehicle that is locked in a climate controlled garage and never driven?

;-)

It is like a cigarette lighter and ashtray. I have to pay for it, but that doesn't mean it's of any use to me.

(Although I do use the 12v socket to power the laptop while tuning and would claim on warranty if the windscreen fell out at the traffic lights)

well if your a car collector and your going to lock your car up, of course your not going to get any value back on a installed warranty, since its more for ongoing road protection for the average driver.

I like 95% of the consumer market am an average driver and even if i have automotive knowledge and consider myself a tuner, im still a fan of the market that protects average joe.

But there are a select % of people who benefit from not having a warranty. I get that. Not everyone who will purchase this car is the average joe and doesn't need average Joe protection. aka Warranty.

Cars prepped for offroad racing
Cars locked under Collection
Cars built for a show room

Those are just some of the instances of people who will not benefit from a warranty because it doesnt apply to them, those are not the average joe.

Cars daily driven to and from work/school/activities..in rain, snow, dirt, hail, mud. putting 8-10-even 30k miles annually will benefit from a warranty.
Cars given to a kid on their 18th birthday or graduation present, or for use in college when they go cross country.
The enthusiast who likes cars but does not work on them.
Even the occasional light modder.

Some of many instances of people who gets plenty of value from a warranty. EVEN if they never use the warranty. Its there for protection.

This is my opinion.. and how I see things.

Now if i didn't have a mortgage, student loans, car loans, a wife, a kid, utilities, other bills...then maybe id spend that extra dollar for some unwarranted fun. Bu i do, so i cant be so liberal with my money to spend on making the car EXTRA fun..and God knows i would.
